This comprehensive 5-day course is delivered by Close Protection Academy – a trusted Qualsafe-approved emergency medical training centre. It's the standard entry-level qualification for those wishing to progress to higher levels of pre-hospital care and is aligned to the skills descriptor for a Non-Health Care Professional First Responder on the PHEM skills framework.

Course Content:

  • Roles and responsibilities of the First Response Emergency Carer

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and safe use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)

  • Catastrophic haemorrhage control (tourniquets and haemostatic dressings)

  • Recognition and management of fractures, dislocations, and burns

  • Trauma-related emergencies, including chest, spinal, and head injuries

  • Caring for children and infants

  • Medical emergencies, including anaphylaxis, diabetes, and seizures

  • Managing an emergency scene, extrication, and patient handover to EMS
