The Rundown:
During this two-day course which runs across Friday and Saturday, participants will learn the key principles of the screenprint process and develop the skills and confidence needed to produce high-quality prints independently. Day 1 begins with a short intro to the history of the screenprint process. We will delve into our own printed catalogue and our library of books to demystify the techniques and teach the foundations of this ancient printing method. Next we will guide participants through the artworking process. Working with paper cutouts, analogue mark-making and digital techniques to develop a multi-layered artwork ready for printing. After lunch attendees will learn how to coat, expose and washout their screens ready for printing the next day. Day 2 begins with an introduction to correct printing practice, including how to prep and adjust the printing press, how to tape and prep screens and finally how to correctly mix inks ready for printing. Once ready participants will print their first layer under guidance, including a chance to experiment with gradients and monoprint techniques to create their background. In the final afternoon session the finishing touches are applied. You will learn how to line-up, register and print a second layer before doing any trimming, signing and finishing of your edition ready to take home.

The Studio:
Workshops are run out of our dedicated screenprinting studio in the heart of Dartington, nr. Totnes. Our separate screen-room houses our large-format UV exposure unit and washout facilities.
Health & Safety:
We print using water-based inks so attendees will not come into contact with any harmful nasties. By nature screenprinting can get messy so we advice attendees wear clothes they're not too precious over. The workshops are active and physical, be prepared to be busy! We are located on the groundfloor, as are our toilets. Wheelchair access is not a problem*.
