Meaningful consultation with young people

Do you want to consult with young people to improve your provision, but aren’t sure how to do this in a meaningful way?

DCMS research on London museums found that only 12% of 16-24 year-olds thought they told stories that were relevant to them. Consulting with young people means you’ll be better informed when planning or making decisions about provision for this audience. Through meaningful collaboration, your museum can avoid making assumptions and create activities, programmes and projects that are more connected to your young visitors.

This training webinar will be led by Tia Shah, Learning Manager at the Migration Museum, where she facilitates conversations about migration with children and young people through engaging sessions and resources. Tia is particularly passionate about finding new ways to creatively embed young people’s voices into the museum. She is dedicated to creating spaces where young people feel welcomed, inspired and understood.

Tia will be joined by Hannah Mather, Cultural Participation & Community Curator and Jamie Oram, Young Producer at Tees Valley Museums, plus Claire Chard, Learning Officer at The Amelia Scott, who will talk about their consultation work with young people.

The session will help delegates to:

· gain inspiration from case studies to take your own work forward,

· develop inclusive activities to help you successfully consult with young people,

· explore how to recruit young people to undertake consultation,

· think about how to analyse and disseminate data after the consultation has taken place.

Please note: This is a pre-order for the recording of Meaningful consultation with young people. Access to the recording will be sent via email by 2 August 2026.
