Children, families, mental health and museums (Wales)
Monday 7 December, 10am - 12pm
What role can museums play in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and families?
About this training
Public Health Wales has found that unfortunately one in six children aged eight to ten have a diagnosable mental health condition. In this session we will explore how museums can support children and families' mental health and wellbeing through activities and programmes that encourage creativity, connection and conversation.
The session will help you to:
understand the importance of this work,
think about the impact this work can have on staff wellbeing,
create self-guided wellbeing activities for families,
work in partnership with local organisations to deliver this provision,
gain inspiration from case studies to take your own work forward.
See full schedule below.
About the trainer
This session will be led by Louise Thompson, an independent consultant who helps museums, galleries and heritage organisations create more inclusive, trauma-informed and wellbeing-focused experiences for communities, staff and volunteers. Louise has over 20 years' experience in the cultural sector, including 15 years at Manchester Art Gallery, and has worked with organisations including Art Fund, Wellcome Collection, Tate and the Hunterian.
This training event will be delivered virtually on Zoom over one half-day session (two hours with a short break).

Plant, teuluoedd, iechyd meddwl ac amgueddfeydd (Cymru)
Dydd Llun 7 Rhagfyr, 10am - 12pm
Pa rôl allai amgueddfeydd ei chwarae o ran cefnogi iechyd meddwl a lles plant a theuluoedd?
Gair am yr hyfforddiant hwn
Mae Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru wedi canfod, yn anffodus, fod gan un o bob chwech o blant rhwng wyth a deg oed gyflwr iechyd meddwl y gellir rhoi diagnosis iddo. Yn y sesiwn hon, byddwn yn archwilio sut y gall amgueddfeydd gefnogi iechyd meddwl a lles plant a theuluoedd trwy weithgareddau a rhaglenni sy'n annog creadigedd, cysylltiad a sgwrs.
Bydd y sesiwn yn eich helpu i:
ddeall pwysigrwydd y gwaith hwn,
meddwl am yr effaith y gall y gwaith hwn ei chael ar les staff,
creu gweithgareddau lles hunan-dywys i deuluoedd,
gweithio mewn partneriaeth â sefydliadau lleol i gyflwyno'r ddarpariaeth hon,
cael ysbrydoliaeth o astudiaethau achos i symud eich gwaith eich hun ymlaen.
Gwelwch yr amserlen lawn isod.
