Join us for this one-day online course and discover what makes quality teaching of history by exploring how to ensure coverage of the National Curriculum through practical creative methods, which will engage children in interactive methods which can be adopted and adapted for different age groups or themes, whilst ensuring progression and challenge for all. We will look at how to develop enquiry and secure a deep understanding of historical knowledge. There will be suggestions to encourage children to ask perceptive, historically valid questions, make careful observations and understand how historians use a range of sources of evidence in order to construct their interpretations of the past, as part of the recent focus on the development of disciplinary knowledge.
This course will:
Present practical ways to encourage a 'hands on' approach and ways to put the story back into history, with suggestions of how to evidence in children’s books.
Inspire you how to achieve an engaging interactive approach to the teaching of history by showing children a range of sources e.g. through the use of artefacts, pictures and other historical sources.
Unpick the National Curriculum, to fully understand how to ensure coverage of the aims with progression and challenge for all.
Outline some effective manageable ways to assess children's knowledge and disciplinary understanding in order to help them improve in the subject.
Provide the opportunity to hear about some fantastic resources to bring history alive through suggestions for making the most of Museum visits, using your local area with historical maps, and a wide range of books, online Museum collections, websites, packs and artefacts which you may not be aware of!
The course will take place using Zoom Meetings.
The registered attendee will be sent an email from the HA via Cademy with the joining information one week before the course, with a reminder the day before.
