Description

Join this self-paced online learning module to find out all about Active Travel, Shared Mobility, and Micromobility Solutions, and the role they play in supporting the decarbonisation of the transport industry.

The module is designed to take around 4 hours to complete and can be done in one go or you can drop in and out as time allows.

Currently there are only two truly zero-emission transport technologies - Electric Vehicles (EVs) or Hydrogen. However, there are other approaches to transport which can help to reduce emissions. In this module we will be focusing on the travel hierarchy and the benefits of shifting journeys out of cars and into other forms.

Over this module you will:

  • Discover what Active Travel, Shared Mobility, and Micromobility Solutions actually are

  • Explore their impact and how they can be implemented through urban design

  • Learn about the key policies which can be used to support the implementation of these technologies

This self-paced online module will help you understand these technologies and some of the ways they could impact your own city or business.

Course Outline:

  • Introduction to Sustainable Transport: Sets the stage with the climate context, key terminology, and the rationale for focusing on active travel, shared mobility, and micromobility.

  • Active Travel: Explores the evidence, design, and policy frameworks that support walking and cycling as low-carbon transport modes.

  • Shared Mobility: Examines how shared transport options can reduce emissions and complement public transport systems.

  • Micromobility: Investigates the rise of micromobility, its environmental impact, and the regulatory landscape.

  • Measuring Impact and Driving Change: Focuses on monitoring, evaluation, behaviour change, and scaling up solutions.

This micro-learning course is part of our Net Zero Transport Fundamentals Collection, where we look to provide bite-sized training on all the core technologies and topics relating to decarbonising the transport industry.

This course is rated as ‘Intermediate Level’ - Content is suitable for participants at any stage, and both beginners and those with prior experience will gain a solid grasp of the subject and improve overall comprehension. However, if learners do not have a reasonable grasp of the factors driving sustainable transport then it is recommended they they first complete the course: The Case for Change.
