This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the technical and commercial aspects of field development planning in the oil and gas industry. This course considers the technical and commercial influences on Field Development Planning within the global oil and gas industry. It also considers the need for understanding field development choice, resource size, facility choice and cost. The course covers the full field development workflow from exploration and appraisal through concept selection, facilities design, project execution, and field management. Through lectures, exercises, and case studies, participants will gain key skills needed to contribute to interdisciplinary field development planning teams and projects.
The course includes topics such as geological fundamentals, reservoir modelling, production forecasting, facilities design, project management, decision analysis under uncertainty, and project economics. Participants will develop a holistic understanding of how geological factors, reservoir characteristics, production mechanisms, costs, risks, and oil/gas prices integrate to determine optimal development approaches for oil and gas fields. Real-world exercises and case studies from a range of settings including onshore, offshore, and deepwater provide hands-on practice. Upon completing the course, participants will have the confidence and capabilities to play an active role in field development planning processes and decisions.
TRAINING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Understand the purpose of field development planning
Analyse the principal technical and commercial features of oil and gas properties
Deepen the understanding of the role of risk and uncertainty when making field development planning decisions
Recognize all aspects that appertain to field development planning, including resource size, resource location and reservoir production support mechanism
Assess the impact of field development choices on facility selection, sizing and costing
Resolve the technical aspects into holistic understanding of the commercial worth of assets
Develop a comprehensive understanding of how a field development project is managed the through key stage gates
Manage the risk of the field development cost, schedule and operability throughout field life
TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is designed for early career professionals working in various technical and commercial roles within the oil and gas industry. It is geared for individuals who are seeking to gain a holistic understanding of the multidisciplinary field development workflow and decision-making process. Participants should have some foundational knowledge in their respective domains, and be interested in developing the skills needed to contribute to integrated field development planning teams and projects. Professionals from operating companies, service companies, and consultancies who want to progress in their careers by broadening their perspective on field development will derive significant value from the course.

TRAINER
Your expert course leader, who based in London, began his career developing novel modeling methods for reservoir characterization at the UK Institute of Hydrology and BP. At BP, he spearheaded processes for managing uncertainty in reserves estimation, which became company standard. He served as lead engineer on major developments like Dukhan and Harding, and led BP’s Gulf of Mexico production. He developed courses for oil and gas professionals for many companies, including BP, in US, Australia, Baku, Brunei, India, Israel, Romania, Surinam, Malaysia, South Africa and Colombia as well as, countries within Europe.
