The Giant stands watch over acres of undulating hills and fertile , water-fed, green valleys. No one knows how old he is. He has defied archaeology, and in the end it comes down to which sorts of evidence one places one’s faith in … although the consensus is that he was put there as some sort of message. Those who place their faith in the written word point out that the first (surviving) written evidence of the Giant is in the Churchwardens’ accounts of 1694 (“for repairing ye Giant, 3 shillings”). They favour the theory that he was created as a political lampoon of Cromwell by Denzel Holles, who owned the land at the time. Others note the Giant’s similarity to Hercules and imagine Roman soldiers creating him as a statement, perhaps in a similar way to how regimental badges were created on Salisbury Plain during WW1. If you talk to those who’ve lived here for generations – who remember running around his outline as a child or playing a sort of hopscotch between the parts of his tackle, he is prehistoric. More recently Peter Knight has examined archaeoastronomical alignments and came to the conclusion he is Iron Age, created not long before the Roman invasion.

As a coach, Seth is dedicated to helping people calm, empower and rejuvenate their busy minds and bodies to achieve the best versions of themselves. Seth brings a wealth of experience holding heart-centered spaces. His in-depth studies, trainings, personal experiences of many therapeutic modalities such as Humanistic & Body Psychotherapy, the Human Potential Movement, 5 Rhythms, Active meditations and the teaching of the Indian Mystic Osho who he grew up with in India in the 1970s, infuse his approach to living a creative, holistic & embodied life and sharing his unique offerings with others. Seth has been facilitating regular workshops for many years. As a musician, Seth is very passionate about rhythm & drumming, has an MA in Community Music from Goldsmith College, worked as a world music percussion teacher in East London schools for almost 20 years, created URUBU collective back in 2009 as a Live Music Ecstatic Dance experience with Afro-Brazilian drummers & musicians and started his journey as an avid DJ with a love for Afro-Beat, Cuban and Brazilian music and created an Ecstatic Dance scene in London and the UK. Seth has a life-long passion for 5 Rhythms and other movement and Ecstatic Dance practices.

Welcome to The Gryphon SchoolThe Gryphon School opened in September 1992 as a Dorset County Council voluntary controlled Church of England School. It replaced three former schools – Foster’s, Lord Digby’s and St Aldhelms which had served Sherborne for many years. Lord Digby’s began in 1743 and Fosters in 1640. The new Headteacher was Mr Chris Shepperd (MA Oxon) and the School opened with 853 students. The foundation stone for the new school buildings and campus were laid by The Right Reverend John Baker, Lord Bishop of Salisbury on July 23 1993 on the site of St Aldhelms School. The new school was formally opened by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester GCVO on 15 November 1994. In 2004 the School became a Specialist School for Business and Enterprise – the first in Dorset. As part of this development The Gryphon Conference Centre was added and opened by HRH The Earl of Wessex KCVO on 28 April 2006. Whilst the specialist school system has ended the School has maintained considerable links with the local community and businesses.
