Course Overview:
The "Level 4 Award in Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam Instruction" is an advanced course designed to provide healthcare professionals with comprehensive knowledge and advanced practical skills required for instructing and training others in the administration of buccal midazolam for individuals with epilepsy. This course offers in-depth training on epilepsy management, recognising seizures, and providing instruction in the safe and effective administration of buccal midazolam during emergencies.
Course Duration:
16 Hours face-to-face tuition over 2 days
64 Hours self-directed study over a maximum of 12 weeks
Course Objectives:
1. Understand Epilepsy: Gain an in-depth understanding of epilepsy, including its types, causes, triggers, and management strategies.
2. Recognise Seizure Types: Differentiate between various seizure types, and understand the appropriate response for each.
3. Administer Buccal Midazolam: Become proficient in the administration of buccal midazolam during seizure emergencies.
4. Teach Buccal Midazolam Administration: Develop instructional skills to effectively teach others how to safely administer buccal midazolam.
5. Create Educational Materials: Learn to develop educational resources and training materials for caregivers, healthcare professionals, and individuals with epilepsy.
6. Facilitate Learning: Acquire techniques for creating a supportive learning environment, assessing participants' skills, and providing constructive feedback.
Assessment and Certification:
Participants will be assessed through written assessments, instructional sessions, practical demonstrations, and completion of a portfolio of evidence showcasing their epilepsy and instructional knowledge and skills. Successful completion will lead to a Level 4 Award in Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam Instruction, recognised by appropriate accrediting bodies.
