Course Overview:

The "People Handling Instructor and Assessor Training" course is designed to equip healthcare professionals and educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to become certified instructors and assessors in safe people handling techniques. This comprehensive course covers the principles of safe manual handling, risk assessment, instructional techniques, and assessment methods, enabling participants to effectively train and assess others in the proper methods of lifting, transferring, and supporting individuals.

1. Legislation (HASAWA, MHSR, MHOR, LOLER, PUWER, RIDDOR

2. National standards and guidelines

3. Biomechanics, posture, flexion and twisting (REBA)

4. How to risk assess and introduce suitable and sufficient control measures using E.L.I.T.E / T.I.L.E.E.O safe principles and the Hierarchy of Control

5. How to choose and use the correct equipment safely including mechanical and non-mechanical standing aids, hoists, and slide sheets

6. Condemned and dangerous moves

7. Practical skills including sit, stand, walk (with and without equipment), bed manoeuvres (with and without equipment) and hoisting 

8. Teaching skills

Course Objectives:

1. Comprehend People Handling Principles: Understand the importance of safe and ergonomic people handling techniques in maintaining the well-being of both caregivers and individuals with mobility challenges.

2. Master Instructional Techniques: Develop instructional skills to effectively teach people handling techniques, including proper body mechanics, equipment usage, and communication.

3. Assess Competency: Gain proficiency in assessing learners' performance in performing safe people handling techniques and providing constructive feedback.

4. Prioritise Risk Assessment: Learn how to conduct risk assessments, identify potential hazards, and implement preventive measures to ensure safety during people handling.

5. Promote a Culture of Safety: Understand the role of instructors and assessors in promoting a culture of safety, adherence to protocols, and continuous improvement.
