What a treat, a rare opportunity for a full weekend of sewing at Stitching Kitchen!  Join Hannah for a weekend sewing retreat where you will learn, build confidence and create a garment from the following choices.  These next steps garments take a little longer as they all involve more processes. 
We have shortlisted three of our favourite Tilly and the Buttons Patterns - which will you make? 
Sonny - a versitle jacket with different collar optoins and lenthgts
Erin - easy fit dunagarees with princess seams and various length optoins
Thea - a wide leg trouser with various pocket options




What you will learn/achieve
Taking accurate measurements, choosing suitable size and style
Making pattern adjustments, cutting fabrics, applying interfacing
Help with your chosen garment constructions - pockets, collars, facings etc
Depednig on your chosen garment and style choices you may even complete the garment during the retreat.

While this is our planned structure, we can adapt to suit each student. Some sewing at home may be required.

About your tutor
Claire is a couture designer, seamstress and stylist with over 28 years of experience in the fashion industry. She has a degree in Design & Technology from London College of Fashion (2008). Claire is passionate about sustainable fashion and advocates for altering, repairing, and enhancing wardrobe staples, as well as embracing second-hand and vintage clothing, instead of contributing to the fast-fashion cycle.

Clone Your Wardrobe: Learn to Create Patterns from Existing Garments

<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">Get in the festive mood and create some free motion embroidery pictures which you can then use as patches to adorn your home at Christmas, as cushions, on gift bags or as cards. &nbsp;</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">You will learn or be reminded how to set up your domestic machine for free motion embroidery or drawing with a sewing machine. &nbsp;</p>
<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">Get started with some simple exercises and then practice the technique to develop confidence in free motion stitching.</p>
<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">I have a whole heap of Christmas designs and plenty of fabric scraps to cut your appliqu&eacute; shapes from. &nbsp;Once you have settled on a design you can outline and add detail by drawing with your sewing machine, if you are feeling brave you can also add some text to personalise your Christmas design.&nbsp;</p>

Free Motion & Machine Embroidery

A Christmas theme free motion embroidery workshop - drawing on the sewing machine to create Christmas themed appliqué designs. 

Floral Free-Motion Applique

<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">Join us for a day of wet felting at Stitching Kitchen. &nbsp;Using Merino Wool Fibers and a range of other prefect, fibres and open weave fabrics you can create a series of felt samples which can then be used for stitching. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">We will lay out fibres in colours which will form the initial prefelt. &nbsp;We will select colours using colour theory to create a cohesive pallet for your felt samples. &nbsp;Once the initial prefelt is formed we will then cut into shapes and add various textures, colours and fibres to give the abstract felt pieces interest. &nbsp;</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">You may need to complete some of final felting stages are a later date or at home. &nbsp;Once the tiles are fully felted and dry you can decorate them with stitch, paint. &nbsp;We will spend the last part of the day discussing ideas for decoration and also uses for the samples and how to potentially mount or display them. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

We will stop for half an hour at lunch time, bring along something to eat. 


This workshop is taking place downstairs in the creative studio space. The creative studio is fully accessible with disabled access via a concrete ramp from the car park and disabled toilet facilities all on the ground floor.

Overlockers are great for sewing stretch fabrics and neatening seams, but did you know they can do so much more? Stitching Kitchen's next steps overlocker workshop leads on from 'Learn to love your overlocker'. To be successful you must already be confident in threading your overlocker and adjustinging tensions to achieve a good finish. 
So if you are comfortable using your overlocker but want to find out how to use it to its full potential - this is the workshop for you.

During the session we will cover:

Rolled Hems
Complex fabric handling e.g. velvet/chiffon/spandex



What's included

The gorgeous Classic Mimiquin is a full scale replica of your body with a traditional firm and pinnable surface. Formed from a precise 3D scan, these custom dressforms are made from sustainable and locally sourced materials, and come with a height adjustable stand, so you'll have everything you need to start creating as soon as you open the box.
Your custom mannequin has three cores as standard so you can use it balanced on the stand centrally or with the pole in either leg making it possible to create shorts, trousers and lingerie.
If you would like to book a scanning session there will be slots available after the presentation and Q&A.

We will help you to understand your machine and gain confidence in using it. We  will teach you how to thread it from scratch. You will spend time playing with settings and tension. You will be encouraged to make mistakes on purpose - so that you can learn by your mistakes.  

Spend the morning gaining confidence with your overlocker and then the afternoon making a simple t-shirt which can be constructed on your overlocker.

Learn to love your overlocker - AKA serger.  Spend 3 hours playing with your overlocker to develop your knowledge and gain an understanding of how these work. 

Overlocker Basics and make a T-shirt

Overlockers are great for sewing stretch fabrics and neatening seams, but did you know they can do so much more? Stitching Kitchen's next steps overlocker workshop leads on from 'Learn to love your overlocker'. To be successful you must already be confident in threading your overlocker and adjustinging tensions to achieve a good finish. 
So if you are comfortable using your overlocker but want to find out how to use it to its full potential - this is the workshop for you.   

In the second half of this workshop we will put your overlocking skills to the test with a chance to make your own leggings using the Stella leggings by Jalie 



What you will learn/achieve
During the session we will cover:
Seaming
Blind hems
Lettuce edging
Rolled Hems
Complex fabric handling e.g. velvet/chiffon/spandex
Create your own pair of leggings

You can however also obtain a Course Completion Certificate following the course completion without sitting for the test. Certificates can be obtained either in hard copy at a cost of £39 or in PDF format at a cost of £24.
