Improving with stretch fabric - next steps with your overlocker / serger. Spend 3 hours playing with your overlocker to develop your knowledge and get to grips with Seaming, Flatlocking, Blind Hems, Pintucks, Lettuce edging, Rolled Hems and Complex fabric handling e.g. velvet/chiffon/spandex

Learn to applique, learn what tools and tricks you need to really make this work for you. Also get to grips with the really free and artistic free motion machine embroidery technique. Set your machine free to draw with it, combined with applique you can make stunning art! This is a very practical and hands on class which will see you appliqueing & free motion stitching in no time, the techniques are easily mastered so you can spend your time creating. Part of a 4 day quilting course, but suitable as a stand alone course too.

Learn directly from Leathersmith and London College of Fashion Lecturer, Georgie Tym, as she guides you through this experience day, making a sturdy hand stitched vegetable tanned leather satchel with a raw edge adjustable cross body strap. The bag is left unlined. Who is this course for? This bag in a day course is ideal for all experience levels, from beginners to confident makers. A perfect introduction into leather work and bag making, you will experience the wide variety of tasks involved in the work. What to expect Have fun learning the basics of leather craft (for accessories), with introduction to techniques including: hand stitching on leather, hand finishing and hand cutting. You will be working with a sturdy vegetable tanned leather. In order to complete your bag in a day we will use some pre-prepared components and the bag will be made from a 'Hands of Tym' pattern. Don’t worry though, there is still plenty of hands-on work for you to enjoy. The Bag The Leather Cross Body Satchel Bag has a sturdy boxy design giving a classic look, this follows the same design as our popular DIY satchel bag. The strap is adjustable and made to your desired length. The bag can be made out of your choice of leather from a wide variety of colours available in the workshop. The bag is unlined. The size is perfect for carrying your everyday essentials. Make it your own with personalised hand stamping. The dimensions of the finished bag are H:190mm x W:245mm x D:90mm and it will be the same construction as the bag in the product photos. What's included in the price? There are NO ADDITIONAL costs. Spend half a day with Claire who will support you as you learn to alter and adjust clothes to fit and suit your personal style.

Masterful use of shape can take your work to new heights, add vitality and energy to your work with improvised free cut shapes is the goal of this workshop. Exercises will focus on sharpening your awareness of the role shape can play in your work. Ideas will be developed by using fused fabric studies. Fabric compositions will be developed using piecing and raw edge fused collage. Learn to use shape and colour confidently by fusing, appliqueing, piecing or stitching them to add movement and direction to your work. Working with a variety of shapes you will learn how to add a new graphic quality by stitching or overlapping colour to make an individual free-form composition.  You may choose to work by hand or machine or both.

Who is this course for? This 5-day practical bag pattern cutting and introduction to leather craft course is ideal for all experience levels, from beginners to confident makers. A perfect introduction into the pattern cutting skills and leather skills you’ll need to create and design your own bag patterns and leather designs. Are you looking to: Start your own bag brand? Design your own bags? Understand the bag making process? Create bags at home to complete your own handmade wardrobe? Satisfy a general interest into the skills and techniques required to make your own bags? Develop a foundation in leather crafting skillsIf you've answered yes to any of the above, then this is the course for you. What to expect Join Georgie to learn the basics of pattern cutting for bags with an introduction to leather craft. The course includes a foundation knowledge through to more complex cutting techniques. Looking at 3D shapes and examples from which you can create multiple shapes and details. Learn all the essential skills you will need to begin your leather crafting journey. This is the course for you if you’re ready to turn those bags you’ve been dreaming up and designing into 3-Dimensional tangible reality. Within the course, you’ll also be introduced to techniques and materials suitable for accessories, including sewing on an industrial sewing machine and stitching leather by hand. Upon completing the pattern cutting and introduction to leather course you will take away the knowledge to bring your designs to life. Complete with a set of paper/ fabric mock-ups which can be kept as your reference sample set and leather craft samples you will have your very own library of resources to inspire and generate future ideas.
