You can create beautiful geometric designs with whatever colour combinations you like. During this workshop you will be covering inset and overlay mosaic techniques. You will be working on a panel learning the these basic techniques that you can continue at home to make a blanket or you can incorporate it into other projects. This class is a great class to take after the beginners class as the sewing will be mostly straight lines and it will allow you to practice more seams and other skills learned in the beginners class. You will need to know how to handle a sewing machine for this class but it's very much still a class that's achievable for beginners. You will cover design, measuring, cutting, the use of various tools, and stitching.

I set up cheekyhandmades after I left my job 2010. I really wanted to use all my creative skills, skills I’d had for many years but never had time to use any more, and skills I realised I could and wanted to pass on. I also wanted to work for myself, I wanted to be able to work around my children. And I am doing all of that now, and am loving it. I get to be surrounded by like minded people, great fabrics, my kids and cats, and listen to music all day. I get to decide what I do every day and how I do it.

This small experiment in 1993 turned into our giant founding project, the creation of 50 tapestries made by over 3,000 local people. Our weekly classes are for children aged 8 years upwards. Classes are usually 1 hour or 1.5 hours, after school or on a Saturday morning. Each student will create a sketchbook, a skills folder and a final practical piece. We focus on themes each term such as sustainability in fashion, portraits, graphic design, costume design. Each project will have a research element as well as a practical element and students will be introduced to key designers and artists relevant to that theme.

I'm a Writer for the best selling "Love Sewing" Magazine Owner and Teacher Originally trained as a Costume Designer at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Claire-Louise has worked in all aspects of Costume for Theatre, Film and TV with an impressive CV of employers that includes- ITV:The RSC:The Royal National Theatre:BBC: Regent’s Park open air Theatre and “The Audience” with Dame Helen Mirren. Her diverse professional experience made her the perfect candidate for the role of Sewing Producer for TV's ``Great British Sewing Bee`` A role she's done since 2012 when the show was first developed. In 2009 Claire-Louise began teaching sewing in Stoke Newington and through her teaching has regained a love of dressmaking for herself. When not teaching at The Thrifty Studio she's also a Love sewing Magazine columnist: A Sewing Bee Author, as well as a Costumier Her first book: ``The Great British Sewing Bee- Fashion with Fabric`` won best sewing book 2015 in the British Sewing Awards.
