Welcome to the WORLD's largest Pre-Hospital Airway Course!
Learn the full range of airway management techniques in this 2 day course.
Work with expert and experienced clinical faculty who know the unique challenges faced in Pre-Hospital care.
Use proven airway devices in small group Skills sessions.
Practice decision-making and airway techniques in simulations using a wide & varying range of high quality simulators.
Face the most challenging patient scenarios in a no-risk environment. These include: elevated ICP, pulmonary edema, cardiogenic shock, status asthmaticus foreign body in the airway, direct airway trauma, multiple trauma with shock, and many more.
The DAC is appropriate for those who may be expected to manage an airway in the prehospital setting, although many of the skills taught will benefit airway management in any situation. This includes;
Paramedics, EMTs and Nurses working in the prehospital setting
Specialist Practitioners in Critical Care
Doctors involved with pre hospital medicine
Important Information
The course covers advanced airway techniques such as intubation and front of neck access, however please note that attendance does not confer competence for intubating patients independently. Intubation should only be performed by skilled airway practitioners who do this on a regular basis as part of their scope of practice (typically paramedics and doctors).
You will be involved in a number of simulation stations throughout; protective PPE/clothing is not required but practical sensible clothing and footwear should be worn.
There are no strict prerequisites for attending the DAC:EMS course, however it is targeted at experienced healthcare professionals, such as those with a clinical qualification equivalent to UK Paramedics, who want to enhance their airway management skills in complex scenarios. The course is also suitable for military medics.
This two day in-person course covers topics including:
Prediction of the difficult airway
Human factors/CRM in emergency airway management
Perfect your bag mask ventilation
Endo-tracheal intubation masterclass
Video laryngoscopy and other advanced imaging devices
Medication-assisted intubation (including RSI and RSA)
Paediatric airway skills including intubation
Suction assisted laryngoscopy and airway decontamination (SALAD) Simulation
Cricothyrotomy- emergency surgical airway (FONA) using tissue trainers
A wide range of supraglottic devices
More information can be found at www.theairwaysite.com
There is no pre-course preparation required ahead of attending.
Your e-manual and Airway Card will be provided on day one of the course.
The DAC develops knowledge and skills relating to:
Prediction of the difficult airway
Managing the airway with a wide range of supraglottic devices and perfecting BVM ventilation technique
Video laryngoscopy and other advanced imaging devices
Suction assisted laryngoscopy and airway decontamination (SALAD) simulation
Endotracheal intubation masterclass
Medication assisted intubation (including RSI and RSA)
Cricothyrotomy – emergency surgical airway (FONA) using tissue trainers
Paediatric airway skills, including intubation
Assessment is continuous. You are required to be present for all sessions on both days to be considered successful.
