The Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) course equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills required to confidently recognise, treat and stabilise children in life‑threatening emergencies. Built around a clear, structured approach, the course ensures clinicians can act decisively, from rapid resuscitation through to stabilisation and safe transfer to definitive care.
Important Information
ALSG recommends a minimum of 4 weeks to prepare for the course - it is not advised to book with less notice than this. If you choose to book this course with less than 4 weeks notice ECS cannot be held responsible should a candidate feel they have had inadequate preparation time.
The APLS course is ideal for any Practitioner who routinely deals with the acutely unwell or injured child. It is suitable for Doctors who work in Paediatrics/ Emergency Departments/ Anaesthetics/ Critical Care as well as senior Nurses, Paramedics and Clinical Practitioners.
The APLS is delivered as a 2-day face-to-face course, plus an additional one day flexible online component (VLE). This e-learning must be completed prior to attending the face-to-face sessions, and can be done flexibly at your own pace.
All information on how to access the e-learning will be included in the pre-course joining instructions.The face-to-face sessions will entail realistic clinical simulations to practise managing emergency scenarios.
Please note this course includes a day of e-learning and pre-course knowledge checks which will take approximately 8 hours to complete, but can be worked through flexibly at your own pace The pre-course preparation should be completed at least 48 hours prior to attending the face-to-face element.
You will also be issued with a physical copy of the ALSG ADVANCED PAEDIATRIC LIFE SUPPORT (APLS) 7TH EDITION at least 4 weeks ahead of the course date.
The e-modules provide the core knowledge, preparing participants to apply their learning during the in‑person sessions, which include lectures and clinical simulations covering the following areas:
Assessing and managing the seriously ill child
Structured approach to the seriously injured child
The management of cardiac arrest
Candidates will be assessed continuously throughout the face-to-face sessions.
Successful completion of the course requires all candidates to have fully completed all e-modules and videos prior to attendance. Candidates who have not completed the pre-course preparation ahead of the course will only be issued an Observer certificate.
