The Child Protection: Recognition & Response (CPRR) course is a nationally recognised Level 3 safeguarding course, providing gold standard child protection training for clinicians. It will aid in developing skills in recognising child abuse and/ or neglect and safeguarding children, and how to respond in a confident and competent manner.
ALSG recommends a minimum of 4 weeks to prepare for the course - it is not advised to book with less notice than this. If you choose to book this course with less than 4 weeks notice ECS cannot be held responsible should a candidate feel they have had inadequate preparation time.
The CPRR course is aimed primarily at Core Trainees (ST1-3) in Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine & General Practice. Places dependent, it is also open to Specialty Trainees, ACP’s and Senior Nurses subject to approval. Please note that we are unable to accept Dentists onto our courses.
Candidates should also have had some practical safeguarding experience within the NHS.

Before attending the face-to-face training day, you must complete the nine mandatory e-learning modules on the ALSG VLE portal. These cover the theoretical baseline needed for the practical day.
You will receive VLE access a minimum of 4 weeks before the course date, so that you can work through the e-modules at your own pace. The in-person session is highly interactive and relies heavily on the content you will review online.
The course will cover the following :
Recognising signs and symptoms of the possible range of abuse and or neglect in children of all ages
Responding competently and confidently, knowing what knowledge and skills are needed to recognise child abuse
Knowing how to make a referral to the relevant agency or professional group and to find out the outcome of a referral
Understanding the importance of follow-up to the health and developmental outcome for the child
The in-person training focuses on applying knowledge through group discussion and simulated environments.
Assessment is ongoing during practical sessions, interactive elements, and role-play activities (such as doctor/carer consultations).
