For 30 years the ALSG certified MIMMS course has led the way in delivering standardised major incident training. This course is delivered by an experienced faculty and blends short lectures, skills stations, table-top and practical exercises.
The aim of this course is to develop skills in the structured response to a major incident using a systematic 'all hazards' approach. Content includes introduction to major incidents, the role of health & emergency services, planning & preparation, communications, radio procedures and major incident triage.
The course provides essential skills for anyone involved in the planning of, or the response to, major incidents. There are no prerequisites to attending but is best suited to those from medical, paramedic or nursing backgrounds as well as those who are involved in event medical cover.
As the only international standard in major incident medical management, the course is taught and principles practiced throughout the world, being integrated into civilian and military medical practice.
Important information
ALSG recommends a minimum of 4 weeks to prepare for the course - it is not advised to book with less notice than this. If you choose to book this course with less than 4 weeks notice ECS cannot be held responsible should a candidate feel they have had inadequate preparation time.
The MIMMS course is suitable for medical personnel who may require understanding and knowledge around the management of a major incident. The MIMMS focuses on the pre-hospital environment, however is beneficial for any medical personnel who require major incident training. Please note that while there are no prerequisites to attending, this course is best suited to those from medical, paramedic or nursing backgrounds as well as those who are involved in event medical cover.
This course is a combination of both theoretical and practical teaching sessions.
The afternoon of Day 2 is dedicated to conducting a practical exercise without casualties (PEWC) either at a football stadium or ferry location. Details will be given closer to the course however, candidates should be prepared to travel for the purposes of this exercise.

This relates to skills and knowledge such as:
Understanding the organisations, structures and roles in managing major incidents and how they work together
Preparing for and implementation of a structured approach when responding to major incidents (CSCATTT)
The importance of Communication and radio procedures
Delivering the medical support needed at major incidents through triage, treatment and transport
The MIMMS course evaluates a candidate's ability to manage major incidents and multiple casualties using the structured CSCATTT approach (Command and Control, Safety, Communication, Assessment, Triage, Treatment, and Transport)
Assessment is continuous throughout the course, and combines practical exercises, workshops, and written or online components (such as pre-course VLE modules) and a multiple-choice question exam.
Following successful completion, candidates will be awarded with a MIMMS certificate which is valid for four years.
