Resuscitation Council UK’s e-ALS course blends a day of e-learning with a day of face-to-face practical learning.
The course covers the essentials of managing the acutely unwell patient and adult cardiac arrest. The online portion of the course covers the theory and workshop learning that is required for the course and can be done flexibly in your own time. The face to face element is delivered over a number of skills stations and practical scenarios to consolidate knowledge.
Our ALS qualification is recognised by the European Resuscitation Council and the Australian Resuscitation Council, giving you the freedom to use your lifesaving skills in other countries.
Important Information
All applicants must hold a professional healthcare qualification or be in training for a professional healthcare qualification. Medical students in their final year of training can be accepted as candidates if this is an established local arrangement.
Course regulations state that candidates should receive relevant course materials with minimum 4 weeks' notice in order to adequately prepare. If you choose to book this course with less than 4 weeks notice ECS cannot be held responsible should a candidate feel they have had inadequate preparation time.
This course is for doctors, paramedics and nurses working in acute care areas (e.g. ED, CCU, ICU, HDU, operating theaters, acute medical admissions units) or on resuscitation/ medical emergency/ Critical Care Outreach teams.

The face-to-face session will entail simulations and scenarios as well as; lectures and skill stations.
Please note this course includes a day of e-learning and pre-course MCQ which must be completed prior to attending the practical day. The pre-course MCQ is mandatory, and admission to the face-to-face training cannot be granted without achieving a pass mark of 80%. Candidates can have unlimited attempts to achieve a passing grade prior to the course date.
During the ALS course you will develop knowledge and skills which relate to :
Recognising and managing the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach
Airway Management
Intraosseous Access
Standardised CPR and Defibrillation
Cardioversion and Pacing
Manage a cardiac arrest by working with a multidisciplinary team in an emergency situation
Team Working and Non-Technical Skills
Assessment will be continuous throughout the face-to-face course. The assessment is based on performance in clinical simulations. You will be expected to show competency in the core teachings of the course, including airway management, high quality CPR and defibrillation, and cardiac arrest management.
RCUK Regulations state that candidates failing to demonstrate competency may practice and be reassessed during other sessions. Candidates who do not pass the skills by the time of the CASTest will fail the course, and will not be granted permission to continue the the end of the day.
Following successful completion, you will be awarded with a Resuscitation Council UK ALS provider certificate, which is valid for four years and recognised in healthcare settings in the UK, Europe and Australia.
