A modular "hybrid" venepuncture course - eLearning (online) theory and one full day classroom based course.
On completion awards a Nationally Recognised and Accredited Certificate in Phlebotomy.
 
PART 1 - THEORY
Complete this part of your course online (eLearning Course) in the comfort of your own home or workplace.
Please allow approx. 5-7 hours to complete this part of your course. You do not need to complete Part 1 in a single "sitting", and can log on/off to complete as and when convenient to you.
 
You should complete Part 1 before attending Part 2 below.
 
PART 2 - CLASSROOM
Attend the second day of our two day course in the classroom at the training location that you have selected.
Your classroom tutor will recap on the theory element (above) after which you will begin your practical sessions learning and developing the skills required up to the point of Live Blood Draws.

A detailed look at three blood collection systems and
associated equipment.
 
M07: Anatomy and Physiology:
An overview of the integumentary system and cardio-
vascular system. Understanding veins, arteries, capillaries and nerves, and their locations.
 
M08: Blood Composition:
A detailed look at the composition of blood. Routine tests on whole blood and routine tests on serum and plasma, including profiles.

A detailed look at one blood collection system (Vacutainer), including standard and butterfly needles and all associated equipment. A comparison of Vacutainer with Monovette and respective merits. Sterilisation processes. Bottle types and handling. Coagulants and anticolagulants.

Enhance your time in Northumberland by visiting the beautiful Ford & Etal Estate and taking part in a workshop at Ravn Clay Pottery. 

Pottery is arguably the oldest industrial process that humans practice, and it remains a vibrant cultural and artistic pursuit across the globe. The types of clay, the methods of making, the glazes and firing methods, the uses and purposes of the finished pieces - all serve to make it an absorbing and life-affirming process, and definitely something where there is always more to learn. 

Join us on the three hour workshop, suitable for anyone, where you will work with stoneware clay to create your own pottery masterpieces. Hand building is the overlooked older sibling of the flashier wheel thrown pot, but remains an ideal place to learn for anyone wishing to play with clay. The session will involve a brief introduction to some basic rules for safe working in the Studio, alongside some principles to bear in mind when creating your own work. This will be followed by plenty of time for you to release your inner potter. It could be a vase, a mug, a candle holder, a sculpture ... if you can imagine it, we will do our best (together) to make it happen. 

After the three hours are up, your work will stay at the studio where it will be dried, fired, glazed and re-fired. Then you are welcome to return to the studio to collect it, or have it posted on afterwards. The whole drying-glazing-firing process could take up to a month, so please be patient. That said, what better way is there to build memories, create something for a special someone and be reminded of your time in the studio.

For this workshop there is no set agenda - if you bring the enthusiasm and imagination, I will provide all the materials and tools needed to create something unique, bespoke and wonderful. 

The number of participants for each workshop is limited to six, to allow equal access to support, tools and tuition. 

ALSO - We are now able to offer you the chance to return to the studio to glaze your work! If you are interested in seeing more of the ceramic process, or have created pots that would look even more awesome if they could be other than a single colour, you can now return once your work has been biscuit fired to glaze your pots. This shouldn't take more than a couple of hours, and incurs a small additional charge (£10) which you can either book now, or when you come to the studio on the day of your workshop. We can of course talk through the various options on the day - but the opportunity is there!

A word of warning - the kiln Gods can be fickle, and despite doing everything possible, some pieces will fail, crack or blow up (!) in the kiln. There are no guarantees in pottery, not even for seasoned potters. A second word of warning - working with pottery can be hugely addictive. You have been warned!

My personal journey into pottery was through evening classes in Edinburgh, where I quickly found I was absorbed and addicted by the tactile connection you can make with clay. I also quickly found that it worked wonders improving my mental wellbeing, providing a creative outlet, a process to focus on, and a distraction from the busyness of modern life. I firmly believe that pottery can help anyone find calm and focus in a restless and demanding world.

The new Ford Studio is housed in the old Reading Rooms - you will find it just up the road from Lady Waterford Hall. Nearby are many attractions and places to walk, shop and eat; how about a near by Narrow-guage Railway (that runs to Etal Castle and back), a working flour mill, a Village Shop & Tearoom, a heavy horse centre, a micro-brewery, or a Riverside cafe?

Please note - access to the studio is only via a set of external stone steps, and there is a single toilet available on site.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE - our workshops are competitively priced to be affordable and inclusive, and the fee covers all materials, tuition, glaze and firings. This is based on a fair-useage policy of participants making up to two mug-sized pieces (or equivalent) during a session, alongside their starter thumb pot. 

If you are a prolific producer of pottery, there will be an additional charge that we can negotiate (but will be at least £5 per piece). 

This is because of increased quanitites of materials, glaze, more space needed in the kiln and additional time required to complete the final pieces.

And finally - There is ample free parking in Ford and the studio is just up the road from Lady Waterford Hall. Ravn Clay sits at the heart of the Estate, which also offers camping, glamping, B&Bs and guests houses. And there’s plenty more to do and see while you are here -

Hand Building Pottery Workshops - 2025 - July - September

In this one-day workshop with Edinburgh jeweller Sheila McDonald you will make a beautiful pair of simple round silver earrings with transparent vitreous enamel. 
The workshop will cover the preparation and application of the enamel, using enamel which has already been prepared for the day. 
This workshop will demonstrate that a beginner can easily enamel at home with a very basic amount of equipment using small handheld torches. 
At the end of workshop there will be a demonstration of simple soldering to attach the ear fittings and the final stages of finishing the earrings. 
All the materials are included in the workshop to make one pair of earrings plus the fittings.
This workshop is suitable for all and no previous jewellery experience is needed. A set of simple notes will be sent to you after the workshop, including details of suppliers and further reading suggestions.
Earth conscious credentials
We are mindful of the effect we have on the environment, and do our best to minimise our impact.
All the enamels used are lead free, and the silver is ethically sourced/recycled. 
You will take the lovely products you have created home with you on the day, and workshop correspondence and notes are sent to you electronically.

The Arienas Collective workshops, courses and events are run from a welcoming and supportive environment within a Georgian mews home in Edinburgh’s City Centre New Town. We invite you to join us, leave any day-to-day worries behind and immerse yourself in being creative.
Spaces on our workshops and courses are limited so that our creative team of artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us.
Our taster and introductory workshops focus on teaching creative skills and methods you can continue practising at home, using affordable materials and equipment. Where more expensive equipment is required we will mention this in the workshop description.
All the equipment and materials you need are included in the price, unless stated otherwise.
Light refreshments from local suppliers are provided. On full day workshops you are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat inside or out. There is also a wide range of independent sit-in or takeaway delis, cafés, and restaurants, plus a range of supermarkets all within a 5-10 minute walk.
Accessibility
The workshop space is on the first-floor of our Georgian mews home and unfortunately we do not have lift access. Blue badge holders can park outside our front door on the single yellow line by arrangement.
Allergies
The workshop space is in our open plan living space and is not nut free. Please let us know about any skin or food allergies before booking. We offer a dairy-free milk and gluten free snack alternative.
Minimum number no refund policy
To ensure we can always pay our creatives a fair fee, we require a minimum number of bookings for each workshop and for this reason bookings are non-refundable. Should we have to cancel due to low numbers, we will offer you the option to swap to an alternative date or workshop, or to request a refund.
We do our very best to avoid cancellations. Since we often get late bookings, we keep our workshops on sale for as long as possible. We realise that some of you travel from afar, so if you book a space and have not yet received an email confirming your workshop is going ahead and need to make plans for your trip, please get in touch before booking any travel or accommodation so we can update you on booking numbers. Or check in before booking.
Private workshop bookings
Most of our workshops are also available to book for: private get-togethers with family and friends; themed wedding and birthday celebrations; corporate team building and well-being purposes; and in-store retail events for your customers. If you’d like to know more please email Lynn.

In January 2024 alone, reports were published about the SRA taking enforcement action against 3 firms and 4 individuals for failure to comply with the Money Laundering Regulations 2017. The fines issued for these non-compliances total over £570,000 plus costs. The absence of staff training, or requirement to complete additional training, was noted in a number of these cases.
As a manager of a law firm, or more crucially an MLRO or MLCO, the ultimate responsibility for the firm's compliance, including with the MLR 2017, lies with you. It is your responsibility to ensure that the firm puts in place, reviews and updates compliant policies, controls and procedures. You must ensure that the firm maintains an up to date practice wide risk assessment. You are required to ensure that your employees are regularly given training on the MLR 2017 and associated risks.
If a breach occurs, the SRA will take a wider look at the firm and identify any supervisory deficiencies that may have contributed to failures by fee earners or support staff. It has proven that it will not shy away from holding to account managers, compliance officers and MLRO/MLCOs for failures by their firms to comply with requirements of the MLR 2017.

In addition to our traditional class-based tuition, we also offer Virtual (via Zoom) Learning courses to cater to different learning preferences. Our Virtual Learning courses provide the same high-quality tuition as our classroom-based sessions. To participate, you will need a laptop, PC, smart phone or tablet with a built-in or external camera and microphone. From the comfort of your own home, you will have the opportunity to communicate with your tutor and classmates through video chat, using your phone or computer camera. This allows for seamless interaction, discussions, and collaborative learning.

Quarterly meetings at the Academy
To ensure a well-rounded learning experience, you will be required to attend face-to-face lessons at the Academy on a quarterly basis, which means every three months. These sessions serve several important purposes:

Practical Units: Some aspects of the course require hands-on practical training. The face-to-face lessons will cover these practical units, allowing you to gain valuable experience and apply the knowledge you have acquired during the virtual learning sessions.

Tests and Mock Exams: These assessments are important for evaluating your progress, identifying areas for improvement, and preparing you for the final exams. The Academy will provide a controlled and supervised environment to ensure the integrity and fairness of these assessments.

Do you need a job?
Yes, you will have 3 months’ time from the start of your course to find a placement.
The Academy provides a list of Private and NHS Dental Surgeries, who are regularly contacting us when looking for more Trainee Dental Nurses, so you can contact them directly as a registered student at the Academy. This is a paid job, unless you would like to work voluntary for personal reasons. We also provide a reference letter to the employee in case you need it.

The curriculum is based on the GDC (General Dental Council) registration requirements for dental nurses. It sets out the knowledge, skills and behavioural requirements that should be developed and demonstrated. These are set out in terms of professional competencies, with the assessment method clearly outlined (e.g. how the skills and knowledge will be assessed in the final examinations – via written questions such as multiple choice (MCQ) or extended matching questions (EMQ) or via Objective Structured Clinical Examinations – OSCEs). We are proud to announce that our Dental Nursing students has the highest examination pass rate in OSCE examinations!

Average wage for a qualified Dental Nurses between £40,417 to £42,350 p.a.
When are the exams?
There are two exams:
1. Multiple choice theory exam. November and March.
2. Practical exam. January and June. 
Record of Experience (eROE)
To be eligible to sit your first exam, you have to complete your electronic Record of Experience (eROE). The eROE has to be submitted to your tutor by 31st Jan for March exam, and 31st August for November exam.

THE SESSION

We'll be welcoming the Angels, our Higher Selves and the Planetary and Galactic Council of Light to join our journey.

We'll start with a short talk, introducing the energies that we are going to work with and we'll follow up the healing journey which will include short Light Langugage transmissions, to help us integrate and ground the energies that we'll be accessing.

Our work will also be supported by the IEC (interdimensional Energy Converter), which is a high vibration multidimensional device, working in the quantum field and bridging between spirituality and science, acting as a Gate of Consciousness, an experimental and experiential technology meant to increase the flow of Light in the heavier, denser dimensions.

The session will be held on Zoom, it will start at 4pm BST (UK Time) on Saturday, 21.06.2025 and it will last for about 1.5 h.
