He will be discussing both how students can navigate film festivals and make their work stand out, and also his experiences working in a position of creative control on a large-scale blockbuster film. DATE: Tuesday 21st May TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A The renowned and brilliantly-chameleonic actor Jason Flemyng is coming to Central Film School this month, and we couldn't be happier to have him. With an amazing CV including films and series such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Boiling Point, A Town Called Malice and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Jason will be talking about his career, how the industry has changed and giving practical, down-to-earth advice for our actors. There will also be an opportunity for students to put their own questions to Jason, so make sure you book a ticket and come along!
Date: 24th October 2023 Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Sorcha Kurien-Walsh, a former pupil at Central Film School, has kindly agreed to join us to discuss her career as a TV screenwriter and her work on the upcoming comedy series Rivals, set to star David Tennant and Danny Dyer and release on Disney+ next year. Additionally, she will speak about her BBC Studios short film 'The Pink Pill', and answer any questions students may have about working as a screenwriter in the TV industry. Make sure to come along and bring questions to ask her!
Time: 4pm Date: Thursday 9th November Location: Studio A Writer and director Andrew Legge joins us via Zoom for this exclusive screening event, where we'll be showing his recently released film 'LOLA' in Studio A, followed by a discussion and Q+A. Set during World War 2, the film charts the amazing invention by two sisters of a computer that's able to show glimpses of the future. By altering events in the present, the world changes around the two women, as time and space reach near breaking point. One of the best underground films to come out this year, be sure to come and see it, and then get a chance to speak to the man who made it afterwards!
Date: Thursday 15th June Time: 4pm Location: Studio A - Landor Road Event Details: Tim Haines is a television producer and director, having worked on several highly-respected documentary and drama productions over a storied career. Tim will speak about the following topics as well as others at the event: Approaches to Documentary How a Documentary Gets Made The Purpose of a Documentary Modern Combinations of CGI & Live Action Throughout students will have the chance to ask questions about the topics being discussed, before wrapping up with a wider Q+A session at the end. Date: Tuesday 12th December Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Noted documentarian Craig McCall will be joining us to show his documentary CAMERAMAN: The Life & Work of Jack Cardiff and to discuss the career of the legendary cinematographer, whose work includes some of the most acclaimed British films of the time (The Red Shoes, Black Narcissus, A Matter of Life and Death). Craig is a dedicated film historian, and this event is open to anyone interested in cinematography, film history or British cinema. Craig McCall’s documentary CAMERAMAN: The Life & Work of Jack Cardiff premièred at Cannes and subsequently screened at over fifty film festivals and was sold worldwide. As an Executive Producer he has made other film related docs including Me & Me Dad on film director John Boorman which also premièred at Cannes, Natan on the pioneering French filmmaker Bernard Natan, Behind The Sword In The Stone on the making of ‘Excalibur’ and Leslie Howard: The Man Who Gave A Damn. All his films have been made independently outside the broadcast system.
Date: Monday 11th December Time: 4pm Location: Studio A One of the most important British films of all time, Powell & Pressburger's Black Narcissus will be screened in advance of our December Professional Perspectives guest, Craig McCall, who will join us to speak about the career of Jack Cardiff, one of British cinema's most acclaimed cinematographers ever. Set in a mysterious monastery high in the Himalayas, the film focuses on the mental unravelling of a group of nuns trying to establish a school there, whilst erotic paintings on the ancient palace walls taunt their deepest, darkest desires. Come see the film that won Jack Cardiff the Oscar for Best Cinematography, and that lives on today as a prime example of psychological drama.
