Factors such as whether you want to grow veg all year round, whether you want to use only hand tools or larger machinery will all come into play, and guide your decision&nbsp;making. This course will show how all of these variables must be taken into consideration and how they lead to different techniques in market gardening from crop planning to cultivation techniques. The course will show that there is not one simple way of growing vegetables, but it can be approached using many different techniques depending on soil type, proximity to market, scale and personal preference. DAY ONE will be based at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.trillfarmgarden.co.uk/" rel="noopener" target="_blank" fr-original-style="" style="user-select: auto; font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box; color: inherit; cursor: pointer; text-decoration: inherit;">Trill Farm Garden</a>, a 2.5 acre market garden started by award winning growers Ashley Wheeler and Kate Norman. Ashley will lead the day and focus on crop plans, soil fertility, propagation, tools, bed prep, weed control and much more. Most of the propagation is done on site, direct sown, or in the dedicated greenhouse, and with the exception of ware potatoes all of the vegetables marketed through the veg box scheme are produced by the business. Join us for this exciting 3 day Introduction to Market Gardening course, with a chance to see three different approaches to vegetable growing and marketing from three different market gardens. 

How you choose to market garden may depend on soil types, area of land available, local markets and personal preferences. Factors such as whether you want to grow veg all year round, whether you want to use only hand tools or larger machinery will all come into play, and guide your decision making. This course will show how all of these variables must be taken into consideration and how they lead to different techniques in market gardening from crop planning to cultivation techniques.

The course will show that there is not one simple way of growing vegetables, but it can be approached using many different techniques depending on soil type, proximity to market, scale and personal preference.

DAY ONE will be based at Trill Farm Garden, a 2.5 acre market garden started by award winning growers Ashley Wheeler and Kate Norman. Ashley will lead the day and focus on crop plans, soil fertility, propagation, tools, bed prep, weed control and much more. We will spend some time in the classroom looking at crop plans and rotation, but much of the day will be in the garden looking at how we implement our crop plans to grow vegetables for restaurants, cafes, shops and a box scheme. 

DAY TWO will be based at Pitney Farm Market Garden (near Langport). Rita and Adi run the market garden here and will give an insight into there approach to growing for a farm shop and onsite cafe, producing year round crops and having field scale production. 

DAY THREE will return to Trill Farm Garden to focus on polytunnel production and selling to both restaurants and through their box scheme. In the afternoon you will then go to nearby Springtail Farm (near Charmouth), where Lally and Tomas have run a market garden since 2019. Springtail is a small market garden based on a larger farm. They focus on high value crops, but also a huge range for sale through a weekly market and local restaurants, cafes and shops. How do I attend?

CLASSROOM OPTION - Attend one of our scheduled classroom locations, completing your Introduction to Phlebotomy Course over 2 days. You will also complete your Advanced Training at the end of the first day and your Competency Training at the end of the second day.

Our Introduction to Phlebotomy and Advanced Phlebotomy Training Kits are supplied at no charge when booking our virtual classroom training option.
If you would like to add one or both of these kits to your classroom training option then these are available to add at time of booking. Our comprehensive training kits each mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video tutorials, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OPTION- Complete your theory training online at home or work, then join us for a one day Zoom session to complete your Introduction to Phlebotomy virtual classroom training, followed by your Advanced Training in the evening of the same day. RQF level 1 Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health
Each year approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health condition and at least 1 in 6 employees experience common mental health problems in the workplace. Research has shown that work is the biggest cause of stress which can stop people performing at their best.

Mental health conditions are often hidden due to stigma and fear of discrimination and research has shown that a culture of fear and silence around mental health is costly to employers. The HSE guidance 'First aid needs assessment’ refers to mental health in the workplace.

This 4-hour qualification provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help. Learners will know how to recognise and manage stress.

Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help.




Suitability - Who should attend?
Here are some examples of who may benefit from attending the RQF Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health:

Employees and workers: This course is relevant for individuals in any industry who may encounter colleagues or clients experiencing mental health difficulties. It can be particularly valuable for human resources personnel, line managers, supervisors, or team leaders responsible for the well-being of employees.

Outcome / Qualification etc.
Upon successful completion of the RQF Level 1 Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health course, participants can expect to achieve the following outcomes:

Increased Awareness and Understanding: Participants will develop a basic awareness and understanding of mental health and mental health issues. They will gain knowledge about common mental health conditions, their signs and symptoms, and the importance of mental health in overall well-being.
Recognition of Mental Health Signs: Participants will learn to recognize common signs of mental health issues in themselves and others. They will gain an understanding of the importance of early identification and intervention in promoting mental health and seeking appropriate support.

Course delivery details
Classroom-Based
A minimum of 4 hours spread over at least one day. Ideally, the course should be run in one day, but must be completed within 2 weeks of
starting the course, with each training session a minimum of two hours.

Online/Virtual classroom
The qualification has 2 assigned guided learning hours (GLH) and 5 hours total qualification time (TQT). GLH indicates the number of contact
hours that the learner will have with the trainer/assessor. TQT includes GLH but considers unsupervised learning and is an estimate of how long the average learner will take to achieve the qualification.

Aims of the Course
The module supports anyone who is not a physical activity specialist by supplying high quality and evidence based physical activity training that develops knowledge, skills and confidence to integrate relevant physical activity messages and interventions into everyday conversations. On completion you will have awareness of:
The MECC approach and how this can be applied in your setting.
What is meant by physical activity (including awareness of the latest Chief Medical Officer’s guidelines).
How to deliver healthy lifestyle messages linked to physical activity, to encourage people to change their behaviour.
Where suitable resources for signposting can be found.
Who is the course aimed at?
The course is aimed at anybody interested in looking to support physical activity conversations in the workplace or community.
