EA/PA Excellence Workshop Live from London on the 25th of April 2024. Featuring Keynote speaker Reggie Love, former Special Assistant to 44th President of the USA, Barrack Obama. Panel featuring Sophie Chapman, assistant to Steven Bartlett entrepreneur, author, host of the diary of a CEO and youngest ever dragon on BBC's Dragon's Den, Victoria Wratten, CEO of the Executive & Personal Assistants Association. The workshop contains, panel talk, keynote talk and facilitation over key topics from Kate Wood over the course of the day.
Come and join us to learn this beautiful meditative technique and let your mind and body relax with your hands engaged in this amazing creative and mindful activity. Weaving is a technique that has existed for thousands of years, present in every culture across the globe. You can weave with various materials and we will be using only upcycled wool and other textile pieces. You are also more than welcome to bring your own fabric scraps or wool and incorporate them it into your project. During the 3 hours workshop, you will learn how to set up a basic weaving loom, see some examples, and discuss various possibilities how they could be incorporated into clothing and fashion projects. This workshop will familiarise you with basic weaving techniques. We will cover how to prepare a loom, the plain weave and the soumak stitch. You should be able to complete a small wall hanging about size A6 (4,1x5,8 inches) or a bookmark if you are a complete beginner. This workshop is led by Anna Baran, a trauma informed designer, artist, and maker based in the north of Edinburgh. She has always drawn inspiration from the sea, with her walks to local beaches, particularly Wardie Bay during the lockdown, becoming not only a source of new ideas for her artistic practice but also a way to gather materials such as driftwood, pieces of plastic ropes, and seashells. Anna has consistently sought to incorporate upcycled materials into her art, using her work to raise environmental awareness and promote art as an accessible medium for self-expression, regardless of financial circumstances. In addition to participating in various art exhibitions and fashion-related events, she has delivered a wide range of art and craft workshops to diverse communities across Edinburgh. Dorset & Other Ring Buttons - In-person Workshop

All day, in-person workshop with Gina Barrett! Interested in Dorset buttons? Perhaps you'd like to try the Zwirnknopf styles? This workshop will take you through different types of thread buttons made over a ring. Thread buttons have a long history and are really versatile for garments, embellishments and home decor projects. Suitable for beginners The workshop venue is Corby Glen Church Street Rooms in Lincolnshire (NG33 4NJ). The venue is just off the A1. Times: 10am-3pm. Refreshments (cake, tea/coffee) will be provided - but please bring your own lunch. All materials for the day will also be supplied; however, please bring your own small scissors. And remember your glasses if you need them for close-up work! Spaces are limited. About Gina Gina is a textile artist, designer & writer with a passion for historical passementerie - especially buttons! She now provides bespoke items to costumiers for film, theatre, museums and fashion, and continues to research and to write about both old techniques and developing new ones. She is particularly keen to discover the lost techniques used to create buttons, which of course means steadily building a collection to learn from. The legendary Peter Keep from Jewellery Training Solutions is heading to Woking from Australia to teach his vast knowledge. Our focus within both courses on offer this weekend is to offer our students intricate technical knowledge which is quickly lost to new technology. Well skilled technical jewellers able to create multiple designs by hand are rare and in demand, Peter is dedicated to sharing his endless knowledge and tips, and while he can usually be found online, we are lucky enough to offer classes with Peter in person – a golden opportunity not to be missed. The legendary Peter Keep from Jewellery Training Solutions is heading to Woking from Australia to teach his vast knowledge. Our focus within both courses on offer this weekend is to offer our students intricate technical knowledge which is quickly lost to new technology. Well skilled technical jewellers able to create multiple designs by hand are rare and in demand, Peter is dedicated to sharing his endless knowledge and tips, and while he can usually be found online, we are lucky enough to offer classes with Peter in person – a golden opportunity not to be missed. In this class Peter will teach you how to make a catch with a hinged locking mechanism.This project is easier than it first looks, but you do need to have experience piercing out shapes and drilling. During the one-day workshop Peter will show you some other options and explain how they work. You will also be provided with information handouts and materials. These specialist skills can be applied across other aspects of jewellery making. You NEVER stop learning as far as the jewellery industry is concerned and it is Peter’s passion to maintain traditional skill. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Students should have some workshop experience and be confident using normal jewellery tools and equipment. "Motanka" is a traditional Slavic doll, which was not only a toy, but had many spiritual functions like protecting the household from evil spirits and ensuring fertility. Historically, it was made from old fabric scraps, even baby clothes that had some sentimental valueDuring the 2 hour workshop, we will learn basic principles of making such doll. You are more than welcome to bring your own scraps of fabrics, we will be working entirely with upcycled materials and no sewing skills are required as this project only involves very minimal or no stitching.The doll could be used both as a toy or as an ornament.
