Regardless of your computer experience, this class will help you become more aware of technology-related risks and what you can do to protect yourself and your organization from them.

This 2 - 2-5 hour course is designed is designed to provide parents and carers with the opportunity to: Develop the basic skills and knowledge needed to deal with a wide range of emergency paediatric First Aid situations, which could arise when looking after babies and children. The course can take place in in a community group or in the comfort of your home, with family and friends who maybe caring for your child or they may have children of their own. The course can be booked during the week, week nights or weekends, with or without children present. The idea is to bring the skills and knowledge to you, in your normal routine.

Employing a mix of practical exercises and critical reflection, this introductory day course provides an overview of fundamental techniques for recording and editing voice, ambiences and sound effects for podcasts, video/film and art installations or just for fun. The course uses industry standard software and introduces a range of popular, high quality microphones and portable recording devices. The course has enough flexibility to be steered by the individual interests of the participants, but you will generally cover; the properties of sound, microphone selection and placement, gain structure, effective planning, noise limiting and reduction, sound editing, dynamics, sound processing and spatial effects. If desired, we can look at a variety of techniques for improving sound quality and recording audio from video conferencing, as we all find ourselves working and interacting in this manner every day. This short course will help you take your images from the screen to final professional-quality prints. We will walk through the processes and techniques needed to take the mystery out of this often daunting and overlooked part of the creative process. By the end of the day you will have gained the skills and confidence to take digital files through preparation in Photoshop, optimisation, and onto physical test printing, adjustments and final output on Stills’ large format Epson inkjet printer. We’ll cover areas critical to the desired outcome including screen and print calibration, paper choice and ICC profile use. By the end of the day you will have two A3 prints on premium Hahnemule matt or gloss papers. Participants should have a basic understanding of Photoshop and attend with a selection of their own RAW files or high resolution TIFFs to work with through the practical exercises. Morning We will begin with evaluating our images and processing the file to maximise print quality output. We will then use Adobe Bridge, Adobe Camera Raw & Adobe Photoshop for the optimisation process. Participants will be guided in preparing their images ready for test printing, before evaluating and adjusting. Discussion will cover using ICC profiles, screen and print calibration, colour rendering, canvas sizing, and sharpening for final print output on various media. Afternoon We will then put the skills we have learned into practice, producing and evaluating test prints before undertaking our final A3 digital inkjet prints. Each participant will finish the session with two finished prints. There will be plenty of opportunity for participants to ask questions at every stage, so that you feel confident and can make informed decisions throughout the whole process. This course is designed for those who are already familiar with some digital photography processes but who want to pursue a particular aspect and develop skills in a specific genre. (we'll glue them on paper) While you're working, I'll be sharing the history, process, and meaning behind mandalas in a super easy way – we'll explore everything from how they show up in nature to their role in religion and art. I'll show you some incredible pictures of mandalas from around the world that'll blow your mind. When your wonderful work is done, I'll guide you through a creative visualization to reconnect with your inner center. Then here's the beautiful part – you'll choose 3 beans from your mandala and plant them with some cotton and water by your window at home. You get to watch them germinate and grow, and they'll become your new seeds for the coming months. A NEW one-day watercolour painting workshop for beginners run by local artist and printmaker Lou Davis in our Edinburgh City Centre workshop space. Join artist Lou Davis for a whole day learning to paint in beautiful fluid watercolours. Lou uses watercolour to create simple and approachable patterned and abstract pieces that allow you to get acquainted with this medium in a way that helps you focus, shut out the outside world and simply create. In this workshop, you’ll learn everything you need to get started painting beautiful and relaxing projects using watercolour. We’ll cover a number of projects throughout the day, that will take you through the basics of watercolour from colour mixing and making different brush strokes, learning about paper types and water control, through to mixed media techniques: adding textures, working with masking fluid and embellishing your pieces with pens and metallic paints. This workshop is perfect if you’re new to watercolour and offers a really beautiful way to explore the medium, it’s also good if you’re experienced in watercolour and are interested in using your painting and drawing time to relax and de-stress. All materials for this workshop will be provided, and the price includes morning and afternoon refreshments from local suppliers. You are welcome to bring your own lunch, or there are several cafés and takeaway options nearby. We invite you to join us, leave any day-to-day worries behind and immerse yourself in being creative. Spaces on our workshops and courses are limited so that our creative team of artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us. Our taster and introductory workshops focus on teaching creative skills and methods you can continue practising at home, using affordable materials and equipment. Where more expensive equipment is required we will mention this in the workshop description. All the equipment and materials you need are included in the price, unless stated otherwise. Light refreshments from local suppliers are provided. On full day workshops you are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat inside or out. There is also a wide range of independent sit-in or takeaway delis, cafés, and restaurants, plus a range of supermarkets all within a 5-10 minute walk. Accessibility The workshop space is on the first-floor of our Georgian mews home and unfortunately we do not have lift access. Minimum number no refund policy To ensure we can always pay our creatives a fair fee, we require a minimum number of bookings for each workshop and for this reason bookings are non-refundable.
