Learn directly from Leathersmith and London College of Fashion Lecturer, Georgie Tym as she guides you through designing your own patterns from scratch to create a whole catalogue of 3D shapes for bags and accessories along with a basic introduction to leather crafting skills. What to expect Join Georgie to learn the basics of pattern cutting for bags with an introduction to leather craft. The course includes a foundation knowledge through to more complex cutting techniques. Looking at 3D shapes and examples from which you can create multiple shapes and details. Learn all the essential skills you will need to begin your leather crafting journey. This is the course for you if you’re ready to turn those bags you’ve been dreaming up and designing into 3-Dimensional tangible reality. Within the course, you’ll also be introduced to techniques and materials suitable for accessories, including sewing on an industrial sewing machine and stitching leather by hand. Upon completing the pattern cutting and introduction to leather course you will take away the knowledge to bring your designs to life. Complete with a set of paper/ fabric mock-ups which can be kept as your reference sample set and leather craft samples you will have your very own library of resources to inspire and generate future ideas. The course covers: Pattern types and shapes suitable for each construction type Patterns for details and functionality features Professional methods and best practice Basic pattern cutting techniques Pattern design/ development and sequences Hands on involvement and demonstrations. There are no additional costs. Basic materials will be included.The course runs from 10am – 3.30pm Monday - Friday. There will be a tea/ coffee breaks throughout and an hour break at lunch. Egg tempera has been practiced by artists for over two thousand years. It is one of the most durable and beautiful paints in the history of art. Students will discover how master practitioners of this art form prepared their pigments from the earth, rocks and plants and mixed with egg yolk to make their tempera paint.

Join Daniel Docherty and master stone-mason Nicholas G. Durnan for this week-long course where participants will learn the principles of Order in Space through a deep study and immersion in the five platonic solids. Daniel will lead the first two days where we will familiarise and befriend the forms as we draw, model and weave them in various ways and at various scales. The focus of the Thurs/Fri/Sat sessions will be on the carving of the forms in stone. It is likely that particpants will be able to carve a full set of all five 'Platonic' solids.

Working with an experienced local crafter, you'll design and create your wooden chopping board, rolling pin and set of utensils to take pride of place in your kitchen.

A two-day, beginner, hands-on course to rebuild a section of dry-stone wall, learning the age old techniques of this satisfying craft

Mandalas, in essence, can be understood to be diagrams, patterns and pictures that are distillations of cosmic wisdom and harmony; repositories of archetypal intelligence. Mandalas offer a potentially powerful means of deepening one’s spiritual and contemplative practice. This is especially true when they are constructed - using the traditional tools of compass and straightedge - in a considered and contemplative manner. During this week-long course, Daniel Docherty will guide participants through the construction of a number of mandalas from different traditions including mandalas that embody significant planetary patterns. We will explore their inherent symbolism and cosmic correspondences. Participants will also make their our own inks and paints from plant and mineral in order to colour and ensoul their designs.
