Masterful use of shape can take your work to new heights, add vitality and energy to your work with improvised free cut shapes is the goal of this workshop. Exercises will focus on sharpening your awareness of the role shape can play in your work. Ideas will be developed by using fused fabric studies. Fabric compositions will be developed using piecing and raw edge fused collage. Learn to use shape and colour confidently by fusing, appliqueing, piecing or stitching them to add movement and direction to your work. Working with a variety of shapes you will learn how to add a new graphic quality by stitching or overlapping colour to make an individual free-form composition.  You may choose to work by hand or machine or both.

House of Quinn is a design practice creating small-batch collections of quilts, textiles and unique objects for abode and dwelling. Objects with a sense of place and function that are reflective of our daily rituals and which become part of our personal collections. Simple luxuries for everyday. Founded by Julius Arthur in 2016, House of Quinn is a place for exploration in craft, making and design by using traditional techniques and fundamental making practices to cultivate contemporary design narratives onto familiar objects. Julius’s work is grounded in uncomplicated materials and processes and inspired by an abstract view of the places and things around us. Growing up in Cornwall, memories of childhood and a sense of home and belonging intersect in Julius' work. Assembled from cloth, paper and materials at hand, Julius finds joy in the process of creating with stitching, painting and print. Quilts have become a staple motif in Julius' work. A way of combining materials, connecting through stitch and exploring shape, form and line. The connection between canvas and practical objects blurs the boundaries between art and function and the idea that objects used, bare meaning through their connection with the day-to-day.

We run creative workshops to show you how to make your own. Our 5* ratings prove how much we care about the people and community we serve; Our 1940s’ Parties for Hens, Grown-ups, Birthdays and Children are well known for our great attention to detail and then there is our 1940s events, where we delve into heritage and social history. Or you can just pop in for a lovely cup of tea and original WWII recipe cake in our mini tea room. You know when you are looking for something really different, well, that is us!

I set up cheekyhandmades after I left my job 2010. I really wanted to use all my creative skills, skills I’d had for many years but never had time to use any more, and skills I realised I could and wanted to pass on. I also wanted to work for myself, I wanted to be able to work around my children. And I am doing all of that now, and am loving it. I get to be surrounded by like minded people, great fabrics, my kids and cats, and listen to music all day. I get to decide what I do every day and how I do it.

My name is Jane and I've been sewing and crafting from a young age.  My mum shared her love of being creative  and it hasn’t ever left me.  I now have the confidence to start any sewing project, going from an idea in my mind, to working out a pattern, to threading my sewing machine and finishing a project.  My mission is to help people find joy in sewing, particularly patchwork and quilting. I want to make sure everyone can sew with confidence, whether they are a complete beginner or have been sewing for years.  I do this by sharing the knowledge and skills I wished I'd known when I first started. I've been delivering classes online for a number of years and it's a real delight to be able to invite people to sew with me in the studio
