My work is driven by the urge to experiment and sample yarns. I respond to the environments I find myself in, urban or rural. Trees are a constant inspiration, as are buildings. I have recently been making work concerned with vision and the loss of sight. I favour plant fibres: cotton, hemp, linen, jute and bamboo but also include wool and silk. I have been weaving on small frames since I was a child. Following an art and design Foundation Course, I gained a BA (Hons) in African and Asian Art and Archaeology at SOAS, London University. I have worked as an arts administrator and assistant for artists and arts organisations, gaining a certificate in Arts Management and Levels 1 & 2 OCA Textiles. Having specialised in Tapestry Weaving, I completed the post-graduate diploma at West Dean College in 1997. I exhibit in the UK and internationally. Conversely, I am also working on and researching a medieval-inspired community embroidered tapestry to commemorate the Battle of Lewes (1264). I teach tapestry weaving and crewel embroidery techniques.

I studied Art & Design at Falmouth Art School and then took a degree in Graphic Design & Illustration at Southampton Solent University. I now work as a product developer for a large, international jewellery manufacturer. Most of the work is commercial and not particularly creative. So as a creative outlet I enjoy many craft hobbies such as crochet, knitting and sewing and occasional a bit of illustration. It all started a long time ago… I moved to Germany when I was two and was put into the local kindergarten. I couldn’t speak a word of German, however the teacher, Frau Pfenning began my integration by teaching me to knit – purely by demonstration. When I came back to the UK aged nine, my mother taught me basic crochet and I became adept at making dolls’ clothes using only single crochet – discovering I could shape garments using increases and decreases. She also influenced my knitting style – I am a “pit knitter”, as was her grandmother. As an adult, I didn’t rediscover crochet and knitting until my early thirties – 10 years on and my hobbies have become my passion. The Savile Row Bespoke Academy (SRBA) is one of the leading tailoring schools in the world. Its objective is to protect, enhance and develop the value of bespoke tailoring by training aspiring tailors to the highest attainable standards. The Academy, which is located on the famous Savile Row, opened its doors to students on 8th January 2008. It provides a unique opportunity for persons wanting to acquire the high level knowledge, skills and experience needed for employment in established tailoring houses around the world or to establish their own businesses. The SRBA course is a flexible modular programme and comprises four advanced study modules in pattern cutting, fitting and remarking; waistcoat making; trouser making; and coat/jacket making. Upon completion of this training, graduates will have the skills needed to secure gainful employment in the tailoring sector, including on Savile Row. Students who complete all four modules are awarded a Bespoke Tailor's Certificate from the Savile Row Bespoke Academy.

As such it includes gardening, interior decoration, calligraphy, costume, arranging flowers, ceramics, food and tea, fragrances and textiles. Matcha tea can be enjoyed with or without the tea ceremony. However, it adds enormously to the enjoyment to be aware of the meanings attached to the ceremony and its experiences. It has been used for centuries to enhance the mind, to produce calm, peace and wellbeing, as well as boosting energy levels.
