Create your own unique textural mini-weaving, ready to hang on the wall. Learn open-weaving techniques - a hybrid of weaving and embroidery
The price includes a kit with a ready-to-hang frame. We will be working on small frames that are ready-warped for you and can be used to display your work, when finished. Jackie will demonstrate how to create an open weave that highlights texture and colour.
Learn needle weaving, soumak technique and other textural effects, to weave branches and blossom, with or without a background landscape. You will be given guidance to design your own piece, with woven examples and illustrations to inspire you.
All weaving materials and equipment will be provided. You will take home your finished weaving, ready to hang on the wall.
Suitable for complete beginners and those with weaving experience who wish to learn a new approach. This workshop is designed for adults. Young people over 12 years, accompanied by an adult, are also welcome.
Please contact jackietapestry@gmail.com, if you wish to pay directly and avoid the Eventbrite fee.
This workshop has been scheduled alongside the British Tapestry Group "Woven Worlds" Exhibition at the Paxton Centre, 2nd -29th April.
White Cherry, handwoven by Jackie Bennett
About your tutor:
Jackie Bennett is an artist-weaver with over 25 years’ experience. She gained the Post-Graduate Diploma in Tapestry Weaving in 1997, at West Dean College. She exhibits her work regularly and sells to private collectors around the world. She has been teaching weaving for 15 years and is a member of the British Tapestry Group and Tapestry Touring International.
Approach to Teaching
My approach to teaching is person-centred. When teaching adults, I try to acknowledge their previous learnt experiences and how this can be related to the teaching that I am delivering. Through my weaving workshops I aim to provide a calming and inspiring experience.
What Inspires my work
Through my weaving, I capture the essence of a thought or feeling as a physical, textural expression. I like to explore landscapes and trees, also medical and complimentary practices.
