&ldquo;What is &lsquo;buon&rsquo; fresco?&rdquo;
Meaning &lsquo;true&rsquo; fresco, &lsquo;buon&rsquo; fresco is the method of applying pigments dispersed in water onto wet plaster, the &lsquo;intonaco&rsquo;, to create durable paintings on walls and ceilings. This differs from fresco &lsquo;a secco&rsquo;, &lsquo;dry&rsquo; fresco, which is the method of applying pigments mixed with a binder to dry plaster.&nbsp;
Traditionally, the buon fresco artist prepares the wall or ceiling with three or more layers of plaster, made with varying ratios of slaked lime putty and aggregate such as fine sand. The paint is applied to the intonaco, the final, smoothest and thinnest layer of plaster that contains less sand than the penultimate, coarser layer, the &lsquo;arriccio&rsquo;. Puy has worked out the best formula of intonaco for your tiles, and you will be using a combination of marble dust and fine sand.&nbsp;
​When the artist paints on the wet buon fresco surface, the pigment particles, carried in water, are locked into the intonaco as it dries. During the chemical process of the slaked lime reacting with the air, the pigments become embedded in a stone-like surface and therefore the artist&rsquo;s marks become a physical part of the painting-object.&nbsp;
​The durability of buon fresco is evidenced in the earliest known examples of the method, made by the Minoans of Bronze Age Crete around 2000 BCE. Imagery depicting Minoan culture, belief systems and their connection with nature has been very-well preserved within the intonaco surface that once covered palace walls and ceilings.&nbsp;
​Using the same method and similar materials that artists have used for centuries, Puy will help you to create unique, interesting fresco artworks without having to re-plaster your walls or ceiling.

Learners are introduced to the requirements of BS 5839-1. This module includes basic principles of fire safety and an introduction to FD&FA systems requirements within the boundaries of the various legal frameworks within the UK.

Module 2: Design -BS 5839-1
In this module, emphasis is placed on the process of fire alarm design, enquiry, survey, design, certification and the appropriate recording and documentation requirements.

Module 3: Installation -BS 5839-1
This module explores compliance with the standard and how the installer may deal with issues not known to the designer during the installation.

Module 4: Commissioning - BS 5839-1
This module explores the process of commissioning, the requirements of testing and inspecting a newly installed system and how the commissioner may deal with issues not known to the designer and/or nonconformities with the standard.

Module 5: Maintenance - BS 5839-1
This module explores the process of maintenance, the requirements of inspection & servicing existing systems and how the maintainer may deal with non-conformities with the standard.

Exam - L3 Award in the Requirements of FD&FA Systems for Non-Domestic Buildings BS 5839-1: 2017
The RQF examination allows learners to demonstrate knowledge of BS 5839-1: 2017 as part of competence in the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of FD&FA systems. Learners will demonstrate knowledge gained within our previous modules and industry experience.

Additionally, please ensure that you have a non-scientific calculator with you for the exam. 
Calculators on phones are not permitted.

Online courses take 5 days and are spread over two weeks.

FD&FA BS5839-1 RQF Certified 5-Day Combined Course - 2 Part Course

Learn how to test portable electrical appliances with a qualification in Electrical Equipment Maintenance and Testing aimed at new starters to the testing of portable electrical equipment with minimal electrical knowledge. This qualification is aimed at those with responsibilities for the maintenance of electrical equipment and for those undertaking practical inspection and testing of electrical equipment. It allows those with the responsibility for the testing and inspection of electrical equipment to gain a qualification suitable to their job role. The qualification allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required to inspect and test items of electrical equipment in line with the latest edition of the Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. Learners completing the qualification will have the ability to carry out mandatory responsibilities within the workplace depending on their prior electrical knowledge This level will suit you if you are looking to become involved in, the inspection and testing of electrical equipment. To successfully complete the qualification learners will have to sit an Evolve on-line test comprising of a 50 MCQ and a practical assignment. The practical consists of 3 tasks which are: Task 1 is inspect and test Class I equipment, Task 2 is inspect and test Class II equipment (this will be either unearthed metal or without unearthed metal or Class II FE – Learners will not need to do all 3 of these, they only need to do one type), Task 3 is completing the record forms

In this module, emphasis is placed on the process of fire alarm design; enquiry, survey, design, certification and the appropriate recording and documentation requirements. The module uses practical exercises for the practice of design techniques culminating in a design layout exam where delegates demonstrate their knowledge of simple FD&amp;FA system design.This is module 2 of 5 which can lead to an RQF L3 Award in the Requirements of FD&amp;FA Systems for non-domestic buildings BS 5839-1: 2017.Who should attend?Anyone involved in the delivery or checking of FD&amp;FA systems and those who have a responsibility for the design, verification or witness testing e.g., architects, service managers, building/property managers, consultants, fire risk assessors, electrical contractors, fire alarm contractors, interested parties (F&amp;RS, building control, insurers).
