Manual Handling covers more than simply lifting or carrying something. The term is used to describe activities such as lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying, moving, holding or restraining an object or person. It also covers activities that require the use of force or effort such as pulling a lever or operating power tools. The aim of the course is to provide a theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to recognise the risk of unsafe practices.

This course is accredited by the National Vocational Driving Instructor’s Register. This intensive course is designed for experienced drivers wishing to become an instructor or someone who has been assigned as an assessor within their organisation wishing to upskill.

Refresher training courses are available for drivers of any vehicle category to assist with skills fade and improve driving competence.

This qualification is aimed at those who are involved in carrying out insulation or associated treatments to buildings; the qualification is at Level 3 and should be by those who are experienced and capable of dealing with a wide range of problems and situations and working with installations that have complex requirements. Candidates may take a technical or supervisory role, particularly in relation to less-experienced colleagues. They will also work closely with customers/clients and have well-developed customer service skills. The qualification is designed to ensure that there is a high degree of flexibility to complete by having pathways for a wide range of occupational roles and specialisms. All work must be carried out in accordance with Building Regulations and Industry recognised safe working practices, including the disposal of waste. What is required from candidates? GQA qualifications are made up of a number of units that have a credit value or credits. This qualification consists of 5 mandatory units and 6 pathways to cover occupational roles in External Wall Insulation, Cavity Wall Insulation, Loft insulation, Draught Proofing, Internal insulation and insulation to Framed Sections of Buildings. Candidates must complete all 5 mandatory units which have a total credit value of 23 credits and the required credits from the selected pathway. Dependent on the pathway selected the qualification has a total credit value ranging from 59 credits to 91 credits The units are made up of the things those working in these job roles need to know to be able to do to carry out the work safely and correctly. These are called Learning Outcomes, and all must be met to achieve the unit. Types of evidence: Evidence of performance and knowledge is required. Evidence of performance should be demonstrated by activities and outcomes, and should be generated in the workplace only, unless indicated under potential sources of evidence (see below). Evidence of knowledge can be demonstrated though performance or by responding to questions. Quantity of evidence: Evidence should show that you can meet the requirements of the units in a way that demonstrates that the standards can be achieved consistently over an appropriate period of time. Potential sources of evidence: The main source of evidence for each unit will be observation of the candidate’s performance and knowledge demonstrated during the completion of the unit. Chairing or facilitating a panel discussion is a particular skill. When many experts and specialists in their field are asked to do this, they discover that it is not as easy as they imagined. Pitching and introducing the session, involving everyone, promoting audience engagement, dealing with difficult panellists and ending the discussion can all be a challenge for inexperienced facilitators. Our panel facilitation training workshop focuses on providing delegates with the techniques and confidence they need to chair panel debates effectively. It is delivered by BBC presenter Martine Croxall and is highly interactive, blending theory with practical exercises. During the course, you will learn: the best way to prepare, including audience analysis and research how to pitch a panel how to introduce a panel how to involve everyone in the discussion the best way to promote audience engagement how to deal with difficult panellists how to end a discussion Each delegate will have the chance to chair a panel discussion, with the other delegates and Martine playing different roles as panellists.

P402 Surveying and sampling strategies for asbestos in buildings is the industry standard qualification for asbestos surveyors. In addition to holding the qualification, asbestos surveyors are required to undertake and provide evidence of annual refresher training. Previously, BOHS provided two Refresher courses for this purpose: P402RM (Management) and P402RRD (Refurbishment and Demolition). This new course, RP402 Refresher - Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings, replaces P402RM and P402RRD. RP402 Refresher enables candidates to revise and update their knowledge on all types of asbestos surveys, and to receive a certificate of course completion by passing a written examination, which covers both the theory and practice of surveying for asbestos in buildings.

GCSE & IGCSE one-to-one tuition

BOHS P903 - Management and control of evaporative cooling and other high risk industrial systems is there to provide background and an overview of the risk of Legionella infection and how it can be controlled in Evaporative Cooling and other high risk Industrial type systems. It is a requirement of this course that candidates have successfully completed P901 - Legionella- Management and Control of Building Hot and Cold Water Services. Where both P901 and P903 courses are run on subsequent days or as a combined course then this prerequisite is waived.

BOHS P904 - Management and control in leisure, display, therapy and other non-industrial systems is there to provide background and an overview of the risk of Legionella infection and how it can be controlled in leisure, display, therapy and other non-industrial water systems. It is a requirement of this course that candidates have successfully completed P901- Legionella- Management and Control of Building Hot and Cold Water Services [Syllabus GM.1]. Where both P901 and P904 courses are run on subsequent days or as a combined course then this pre-requirement is waived.
