Course Content Comprehensive Review of Common MSK Conditions: An in-depth overview of prevalent musculoskeletal conditions encountered in clinical practice Mastering Upper Limb Special Tests: Practical, hands-on instruction and practice in performing and interpreting key special tests for the shoulder (e.g., Empty Can, Hawkins-Kennedy, Neer’s), elbow (e.g., Jobe’s), wrist and hand (e.g., Phalen’s, Tinel’s, Finkelstein’s), and cervical spine (e.g., Spurling’s) etc. Emphasis will be placed on proper technique, sensitivity, specificity, and clinical relevance. Mastering Lower Limb and Lumbar Spine Special Tests:Practical, hands-on instruction and practice in performing and interpreting key special tests for the lumbar spine (e.g., Straight Leg Raise, Slump Test, Quadrant Test), sacroiliac joint (e.g., FABER), hip (e.g., Trendelenburg, Thomas), knee (e.g., McMurray’s, LCL), ankle and foot (e.g., Anterior Drawer, Windlass) etc. Emphasis will be placed on proper technique, sensitivity, specificity, and clinical relevance. Clinical Reasoning and Interpretation: Developing critical thinking skills to integrate special test findings with patient history and other assessment components to arrive at accurate diagnoses and inform treatment plans. Case studies and real-world scenarios will be utilised. I've added this two day workshop because a one day workshop gives you the basics, but two days will allow you to develop your carving technique and use additional knife grasps.  By embedding good technique into the way you carve, you will avoid injuries and additional regular stretching will help you to look after your body. You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to carve safely at home.  You will have access to a range of different tools, starting with the axe to rough out spoon blanks - I have a good range of axes you can try from budget to the Gransfors large carving axe. Next using the Mora wood carving knives (105/106/120) to shape your blanks into spoons following traditional designs for optimising strength and utility. I also have a range of hook knives to try out. Using these traditional tools you will make a spoon from local and sustainable fresh cut green wood (usually willow/birch/alder or cherry) - starting with a log and leaving with a spoon. From the initial splitting of the log, trimming it down with an axe, to carving finer details and decorations with chip carving knives. This course is located close to central Edinburgh and is accessible by public transport.  Depending on the weather it can be inside or outdoors in the wildlife garden. This qualification is suitable for anyone who wants to work in a school or college setting in a full or part-time support role (this could be in an administrative role, technical or site support, voluntary work or working directly with children and young people in the classroom). Content The course is made up of 6 units covering the following themes: Child and young person development Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Schools and colleges as organisations Understanding children and young people’s health and safety. You’ll work in small groups, led by experienced tutors.
