The person may be not be aware that this is happening (silent aspiration).&nbsp;Aspiration can be dangerous as it can cause pneumonia. This ½ day course looks at the physical, Psychological and Social aspects of Dysphagia. It gives an appreciation of the Dysphagia Management Plan and how this may impact on an individual’s ability to participate in eating and drinking including understanding the ethical and legal issues relating to Dysphagia.
Why Is It Important?
Safe swallowing involves the timely and coordinated transport of food, fluids and saliva from the mouth through the throat to the stomach. When a swallowing problem (dysphagia) is present, there may be a high risk of food, fluids and saliva entering the lungs (aspiration). The person may be not be aware that this is happening (silent aspiration). 
Aspiration can be dangerous as it can cause pneumonia. The person may also be at higher risk of choking.

To have a basic understanding of the term ‘Dysphagia’ and the four stages of swallowing or deglutition
Understand causes of Dysphagia including Diseases and the Anatomy and Physiology from normal to a person with Dysphagia

Why Epilepsy Care Important?
There are over 600,000 people in the UK with a known diagnosis of epilepsy. That’s about 1 in 103 people. In every week over 600 people are given an epilepsy diagnosis; that’s 87 each and every day. Shockingly, there are 21 epilepsy-related deaths every week in the UK.
For some, it may be as a result of a head injury, stroke, brain tumour, or in the elderly, neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. In certain cases there is a genetic reason for the condition.

It is estimated in the UK there are at least 90,000 people with long term urinary catheters (using them for three months or more).
Catheterisation is a common procedure, yet it carries many risks including trauma, urinary tract infection, encrustation, urethral perforation, bladder calculi neoplastic changes, and those with spinal injuries there is the risk of autonomic dysreflexia.

When are the exams?
There are two exams:
1. Multiple choice theory exam. November and March.
2. Practical exam. January and June. 
Record of Experience (eROE)
To be eligible to sit your first exam, you have to complete your electronic Record of Experience (eROE). The eROE has to be submitted to your tutor by 31st Jan for March exam, and 31st August for November exam.

PART 1 (THEORY) - STUDY AT HOME ONLINE :

Full instructions will be provided. We will send you a completely free Practise@Home Phlebotomy Training Kit, including a mini-arm trainer, for you to keep. You will follow your tutor's on-screen instructions during your Zoom virtual classroom sessions as you learn and develop your phlebotomy skills. The procedures and practices taught online are exactly the same as you would learn in the classroom. At any time before or after your course you can watch our 30 minute step-by-step video to refresh your knowledge and continue to use your training kit to practice your skills.

P06A: Practical Session 6A – Performing the venepuncture on the mini-arm trainer. Palpating the vein, performing the venepuncture. Sample handling and labelling.
