Duration FAW Initial - 18 hours (2 days face to face + 6hrs of elearning) RFAW Requal - 12 hours (2 days face to face, with a valid previous certificate) Syllabus A range of subjects are covered including: Day 1 Role of the First Aider Primary Survey Unresponsive (Breathing) - Recovery Position & Monitoring Unresponsive (Not-Breathing) - CPR & AED Bleeding (Catesrophic, Severe & Minor) Burns Choking Seizures Shock Day 2 Fractures, dislocations and spinal injuries Poisoning Heart attacks Head injuries Chest injuries Asthma Stroke Shock Severe Allergic Reaction Eye injuries Sprains and strains Diabetes Day 3 (elearning) For those who are completing the qualification for the first time or do not have a valid existing certificate, will be required to complete elearning, which can be done before the training or within 30 days after the training. Those re-qualifying, need not complete the elearning. Assessment Continual assessment is used, combined with a number of observed practical activities and 3 short theoretical assessments, supported by our experienced trainers. Please arrive in good time for your training (we advise 15 mins before the start time). Late learners will not be accepted and will turned away without refund. Please wear clothing suitable for practical activities (no skirts or high heels). You must attend the entire course, learners who leave early will not be issued a certificate. Covid-19 - due to this being a healthcare course, you are prohibited from attending if you have contracted Covid-19. Practical Elements - in order to pass the course, you will be required to kneel down on the floor (primary survey), be rolled onto your side (recovery position) and perform 2 mins of rescue breaths and chest compressions (CPR). This will all have to be completed unaided. Reading & Writing - you must be able to read and write in English, however this can be supported by your trainer if you have a learning need (such as dyslexia) or English is your 2nd language. 2 Day First Aid Refresher Description:The 2 day First Aid at Work Requalification Course is nationally recognised. It meets the standards required to help comply with Health and Safety (First aid) regulations. The 2-Day first Aid at Work Refresher Course is appropriate for candidates who are currently holding an in-date and valid full First Aid at Work Qualification. Upon completion of the course the candidates qualification is renewed for a further three years. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and care of the unconscious requires physical effort. Learners should be capable of working with casualties at floor level. Learners receive a First Aid at Work guide book, a training dressing and a CPR barrier protection device. The HSE strongly recommend that all First Aiders undertake annual refresher training of at least 3 hours per year. This qualification is ideal for those already working, or preparing to work within industry wishing to become a First Aider in the workplace for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982. Topics within this qualification are regarded by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) as being important in maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health in the workplace. How long will it take me to achieve this qualification? This is a 1 credit qualification, with a guided learning hour’s value of 8 and it has a minimum contact time of 6 hours, which is typically delivered via a 1 day course. How is the qualification assessed? Learners must undertake a practical assessment of their competence along with a short open response knowledge assessment, where learners are required to provide a short response to a prescribed series of questions. What next? In line with guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves work place emergency first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course.
