The course will concentrate on the important aspects of completion design and what makes a safe and efficient well.A common thread of practical examples will be used throughout the course in the form of a case study or &ldquo;red-thread&rdquo; exercise. The case study is based around data all taken from a single field where those attending will work through all the basic issues of a completion design. The exercises associated with the case study is performed in the student&rsquo;s own time after each of the formal sessions. However, at the start of the next day, the case study is reviewed and discussed. The whole case study will continue through all sessions, with each element being reviewed at the start of the next session. There is no &lsquo;right&rsquo; answer to the exercise &ndash; producing interesting discussions!The purpose of the course is not to go over specific equipment in detail. Your chance to forge &amp; haft your very own hand axe! &nbsp;There are few things more satisfying than thrusting a lump of steel in to the flames and letting the sparks fly under your hammer as you craft your very own hatchet.&nbsp;
&nbsp;Learn how to work smith and striker to forge hot steel in small groups to forge a hand axe each.
This is an excellent course for groups and does require team work to move the metal where you want it to go.&nbsp;
The day is split in to three parts. Part one is forging out the axe, Part two is heat treating the axe to turn it in to a working tool, and part three is shaping and hafting (handeling) the axe. By the end of the day you have a fully working hand axe to take away with you.
For people who have done some forging befor try your hands at making something more tricky like a bearded axe.
This is also open to re-enactors who wish to make a blunt fighting axe.

Time to get your hands dirty and let the sparks fly. Take the chance to make some interesting bits and pieces to take home with you. A great experience for novices to try your hands at one of the oldest trades.
The course is open to all over the age of 16. We can accommodate groups, couples, stag &amp; hen dos.
The day will be spent at the anvil working with hot steel, sparks and fire. Over the day we will cover the basics and produce a range of items including hooks, key rings, letter openers, Fire pokers and many other bits and pieces.
 Run by Master Blacksmith William Holland FWCB of Phoenix Forge.
The courses are typically run in small groups to ensure that everyone gets as much one on one tuition as they require to develop their skills.
 The courses are run in a dedicated professional forge, which is relaxed working environment you will be given the time to progress at your own speed to build your confidence in working with the tools and the hot metal.
If you have done some forging already that&rsquo;s great too, we can demonstrate more elaborate techniques and tricks to help you progress further.

On this bespoke 5 day course, silversmith Bryony Knox will show you how to design and make your own Arts &amp; Crafts inspired copper clock.
This is an ideal introduction to various metalwork techniques whilst making your own beautiful object to love and treasure.
This course will run over 5 days from 10-4pm each day. Beginners - Advanced
Bryony will explain the way to design and make a free standing clock using techniques popular amongst Arts &amp; Crafts such as riveting, piercing and the ancient art of Chasing &amp; Repousse- where sheet metal is formed and embossed using small steel tools, whilst held in pine pitch.
During the week, a slightly smaller version of the Acorn Clock, which Bryony made on BBC2's 'The Victorian House of Arts and Crafts' will be made.
Templates will be provided with room to personalise your design. The price includes copper, use of tools tools and a quartz clock mechanism.
The class will be no larger than 4 people and held in Bryony's own colourful and eclectic workshop at Coburg House Studios in Leith, Edinburgh.

Our workshop space is on the first-floor of a Georgian mews building and unfortunately we do not have lift access.
The workshop space is in our home which is not nut free. Please let us know of any skin or food allergies before booking.
We require a minimum number of bookings to ensure we can pay our creatives a fair fee, and for this reason bookings are non-refundable. Should we have to cancel, we will offer you the option to swap to an alternative date or workshop, or to request a refund.
Private workshop bookings
Most of our workshops are also available to book for small private get-togethers; themed wedding and birthday celebrations; corporate team building and well-being purposes; and as in-store retail events. An ideal way for beginners to explore the malleability of this colourful metal, whilst making a unique box for keepsakes.
All materials and templates are included in the price.
The class will be no larger than 6 people and held in Bryony's own colourful and eclectic workshop at Coburg House Studios in Leith, Edinburgh.
