This is a two week programme incorporating eight different modules including: Module 1 - Basic Electrics and PAT Module 2 - Engines / Power Systems Module 3 - Non-Mechanical Equipment Module 4 - Basic Hydraulics and Hydrostatic Drive Module 5 - Powered Access Equipment Module 5 LLA - Low Level Access specific element Module 6 - Workshop H&S Essentials Module 7 - Materials Hoists including Sumner 2000 series and Genie SLAs During the programme the learner is inducted on their Level 2 NVQ in Plant Maintenance or Level 3 in Thorough Examination. One week with us and then a period back at work (4 weeks or less) to gather work based evidence and then a further week back at our Penybont training centre ​At 1/2 a point per course the training is worth up to 4 points towards your IPAF CAP certification. The Level 2 PM is worth a further 2 points and the Level 3 Thorough Examination is worth 4 points.

Thanks to funding from Lancashire County Council, Active Cycles Bike Hire Library is offering adult bikes for hire completely free of charge. Bikes are available to hire for as little or as long as you'd like, subject to availability. There are a range of sizes and styles of bikes available, so if you have a particular bike in mind please let us know when making your booking. Bikes can be collected from Active Cycles, Accrington Arndale Centre, BB5 1PL. When making your booking, the information you provide will be used for data monitoring purposes only. Card details will be taken at the time of booking as security in the event of damage or non-return of the bike, but no charges will be made unless necessary. Your details will be deleted from the system once the bike has been returned and inspected by a mechanic. If you do not have a bank card, please contact the shop on 01254 919393 or visit us in person on Tuesdays or Thursdays, 10:30AM - 3:30PM. We do not take same-day bookings via our website, however we may have availability so please call us to check. Once your booking has been created, it will be approved within 48 hours. Please bring your booking confirmation email with you when collecting your bike. Bikes cannot be hired out to those under the age of 18, you may be asked for proof of age upon collection if you look under 18.

Our one-day Park Tool School Basic: Ride with Confidence Course is perfect for anyone looking to learn how to address common issues while out riding. It is suitable for people with little to no knowledge of bike maintenance. This course is intended to ensure that participants leave at the end of the day with the confidence to fix common problems with their bikes. The maximum group size is 7. Our fully trained mechanic will be on hand to answer questions as they come up, and there is plenty of opportunity for practice. This course is fully endorsed by the Bikeabillity Trust for mechanic certification! For those participants seeking a Bikeability accreditation, there will be an assessment after the training. Please note for all other participants there is no assessment.   Course Detail Basic Mechanical Skills – tools, stands, home shop set-up, tension & torquing bolts, lubrication, threadlockers & cleaners, health & safety Safety “M” check Tyres, tube & puncture repair (innertube replacement), with wheel removal and installation Looking after your drivetrain: lubrication, cleaning and wear of chains, rear sprockets and chainrings Disc brake systems – differences of cable vs hydraulic, rotors, basics of brake alignment, pad replacement Caliper rim brake adjustment and pad replacement for v-brake, dual pivot road caliper and cantilever Field repairs – what tools to take and tips & tricks to get you home! Please note that we will be concentrating on standard derailleur geared bikes. If you have a bike with hub brakes and hub gears you may find some parts of this course less relevant to your bike, though most things are transferable. It contains the skills and knowledge required to work safely around a vehicle’s high & low voltage electrical system and electric drive train system, whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance. As a result, learners successfully completing this qualification will acquire significant core knowledge and skills and the ability to work safely around and maintain Electric/Hybrid vehicles.   LEVEL 3 AWARD IN ELECTRIC/HYBRID VEHICLE REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT The content of this qualification has been designed to give the learners the knowledge and skills required to work safely on Electric/Hybrid vehicles whilst carrying out diagnostic, testing and repair activities. He is currently a Senior Independent Consultant to various petrochemical industries in the UK, USA, Oman, Kuwait and KSA where he provides consultancy services on both the application and operational constraints of process equipment in the oil & gas industries. During his early career, he held key positions in Rolls Royce (UK) where he was involved in the design of turbine blading for jet engines, subject to pre-specified distributions of pressure. During this period and since, he has also been closely involved in various aspects of Turbomachinery, Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics where he has become a recognised authority in these areas. Later, he joined the academic staff of University of Liverpool in the UK as a Professor in Mechanical Engineering Courses. A substantial part of his work has been concerned with detailed aspects of Flowmetering - both of single & multiphase flows. He has supervised doctoral research students in this area in collaboration with various European flowmeter manufacturers. He joined Haward Technology Middle East in 2002 and was later appointed as European Manager (a post which has since lapsed) and has delivered over 150 training courses in Flowmeasurement (single- and multi-phase), Control, Heat Exchangers, Pumps, Turbines, Compressors, Valve and Valve Selection as well as other topics throughout the UK, USA, Oman and Kuwait. Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Construction Plant or Machinery Maintenance

The IMI Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Classes 1 and 2) was developed with Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to perform the MOT Test Routine on mopeds and motorcycles.

The IMI Level 2 Award in MOT Testing is the second stage in becoming a qualified MOT tester. It was developed alongside the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and is designed to equip learners with the qualification, knowledge and skills necessary to carry out and accurate and repeatable MOT Test Routine. Once you have successfully completed and passed this award, the final stage (stage 3) will be to complete a VT8 demonstration MOT test with a DVSA assessor to receive your certificate of competence. This will normally be conducted in your own Vehicle Testing Station (VTS) and successful completion will allow you to commence testing with immediate effect. What you will achieve Successful completion of the IMI Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Classes 4 and 7), will give you a valuable academic qualification recognised by the DVSA that demonstrates your skills and knowledge in conducting MOT testing. Who Should Attend The IMI Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Classes 4 and 7), has been developed for individuals who would like to improve their career by becoming qualified MOT Testers. The course is run over four days with the final assessments being conducted on day 4. Pre-course training material will be sent through 2 weeks before start date to complete prior attendance. The assessments consists of an online test of 40 questions and a demonstration MOT where you will be observed carrying out a full MOT demo test. The theory part of the test is ‘open book’ which means you will be able to use reference materials such as the MOT Testers Manual during the test. The pass mark for this test is 80%. Learners wishing to undertake this course MUST poses a good standard of written and spoken English as all MOT training and testing is conducted in English.
