I’m a girl who loves yoga, vegan food, independent cafes, singing, colour mixing, mark-making, getting covered in clay, drawing blindfold, walking in the woods and ambling barefoot doing cartwheels on the beach. I love to swim, surf and paddle in the sea, exploring woodlands and hiking in the mountains. I’m always up for an adventure and I have a bizarrely keen sense of smell! I am a professional artist with a PhD in Ceramics, and I teach experimental drawing and ceramics at a community arts centre. I am passionate about taking care of our planet and repairing the damage we humans have inflicted on our beautiful mother earth. REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

’m Vicky, I’m a wife, mum and Textile Artist and I love being creative, I studied a Textiles Degree at Winchester School of Art and have recently finished my City and Guilds in Machine Embroidery which was an absolute joy to do and has helped inspire my more recent work – combining it with hand embroidery techniques to enhance it. I enjoy dyeing and printing my own fabrics to create interesting backgrounds, blending colour washes, printing and mark making to create unique pieces of art to stitch onto. I work from my home studio in Surrey which has provided me with a rich source of inspiration from nature – from the colours and texture of bark to the serenity and beauty in the local landscapes.

Thank you for visiting my website where you will find my blog posts, portfolio of paintings, work for sale and information about my learn to paint videos. I live in Southwest Wales, Carmarthenshire, in the beautiful Towy valley where much of the inspiration for my work comes from. I like to paint natural subjects and use mainly watercolour and mixed media. I strive to work in a loose style trying to capture the essence and character of a subject rather than rendering detail. I continue to learn, experiment and hopefully develop as an artist. Below are some new autumn paintings, loose and semi abstract. Rather busy but then the woods are rather busy at this time of year 😃. Lots of mark making to suggest movement particularly in the bottom two.

Established in 2012 by Jill Martin Boualaxai and Damian Michael Malone, Look and Draw runs a year round program of exciting and innovative art classes and workshops from Wasps Artists Studios near Haymarket and monthly pop up events at The Safari Lounge in Abbeyhill. Look and Draw classes are brought to you by a group of like minded professional artists who are all passionate about the visual arts and about taking the right approach to drawing and painting. The majority of classes are tutored by Jill Martin Boualaxai. Other ad hoc tutors with Look and Draw are Cat Bruce, Sarah Calmus, Lorna Johnson, Oana Stanciu & Matthew Storstein . We provide a structured and supportive teaching environment that aims to inspire and challenge. We encourage you to develop your own visual language of mark making, and we work to equip you with the skills, knowledge and theory to further your own art practice.

I am an abstract artist living in Edinburgh, UK, and I work in mixed media, including acrylics and collaging techniques. Creating exhilarating and compelling paintings is what I strive for, by manipulating different materials and media. I usually begin my process by adding loose layers, building up textures and color, while being directed by gestural marks that I react to. A new body of work often appears when a certain color, a piece of collage or something else such as a visual prompt, has stirred up inspiration. It is important to me to let the work develop organically and let it lead the way. I especially enjoy the beginning stages of playful movement, and activating the canvas with impulsive mark-making, often a graphite pen or big splashes of color. Sometimes I begin with collaging, creating textures and patterns before even a drop of paint has hit the surface. From there, the painting starts to take a direction of its own. Using stimulating tools, anything from brushes and pens to scrapers, scratching tools and even sandpaper on the surface, the piece starts to form..
