Huddersfield-based artist Puy Soden is offering an exciting new buon fresco painting workshop in Crafters Cottage, Honley, near Holmfirth, West Yorkshire this June. In Puy’s hands-on workshop you’re invited to experience specialist materials and methods, similar to those used by Michelangelo over 500 years ago for his incredible Sistine Chapel ceiling in Rome. Learn an ancient painting method and create your own beautiful fresco artworks on tiles for your home and garden.

The Moving &Handling Course is a full day course to ensure that care workers are competent and confident to carry out their duties to the standards expected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) when Moving & Handling People. The course is a mixture of theory and practical elements, using various forms of equipment used in the community. Training Aim: To equip learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively move and handle individuals, minimising the risk of injury to both the care giver and the person being moved, whilst promoting dignity and comfort for the individual. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the session, learners will be able to: Discuss the legal responsibilities, procedures and duty of care when moving and handling individuals Demonstrate abilities when using equipment in line with individual handling plans Explain and understand biomechanical principles Discuss and demonstrate safer moving and handling principles and techniques Identify and demonstrate the safe use of moving and handling equipment Demonstrate abilities to risk assess and carry out POSRA Recognise unsafe practice and the implementing of safer practices Instructions Please can learners ensure they wear trousers and a full shoe. Learners need to be physically fit and well to undertake the activities for Moving & Handling of People. A relaxed and informal Blackwork Embroidery course in the lovely setting of a converted 18th Century cotton mill in Warwick Bridge, Carlisle. This course has been designed to guide the complete beginner or act as a refresher for those who may have dabbled in Blackwork embroidery in the past. We will cover the history, styles of Blackwork embroidery, threads and techniques.

The course introduces Down syndrome to people who have little experience of working with children with Down syndrome and covers society’s view of Down syndrome, health implications, strengths and weaknesses in the classroom and outlines ways to address the specific learning needs and manage behaviours.

It will look at expectations, appropriate behaviour, including self help skills and go on to outline positive strategies by focusing on wanted behaviour.

The course is both theoretical and activity based in nature The participant will receive up to date research based information relating to Acquired Brain Injury and appropriate learning and behavioural & management strategies to use and coupled with person centred approaches can help promote recovery and positive self image.
