Date: 24th October 2023 Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Sorcha Kurien-Walsh, a former pupil at Central Film School, has kindly agreed to join us to discuss her career as a TV screenwriter and her work on the upcoming comedy series Rivals, set to star David Tennant and Danny Dyer and release on Disney+ next year. Additionally, she will speak about her BBC Studios short film 'The Pink Pill', and answer any questions students may have about working as a screenwriter in the TV industry. Date: Monday 23rd October Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Come and see Celine Sciamma's (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) exploration of gender identity and youth, Tomboy. When they move to a new neighbourhood in Paris, 10-year-old Laure sees the opportunity to present a new gender identity for themselves. Told with touching delicacy and subtle yet powerful drama, this film is a tour-de-force approach to the topic.

Barry Jenkins' tender masterpiece explores the LGBT identity within wider African-American culture, with stunning imagery, sensational performances and a wondrous score. Follow the story of Chiron, a teenager growing up in the Miami ghetto, dealing with his sexuality and drug-addict mother. Tickets are free to this event, and be sure to join us in The Landor pub afterwards to discuss the film together.

Date: Tuesday 3rd October Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Lucy Percival will be holding a talk on 'How to Find Your Ideal Role in Film & Navigating the World of Independent Filmmaking & Financing' Lucy has produced award-winning short films through both independent production companies and organisations such as the BFI and NFTS. Her films have been screened at numerous BAFTA qualifying festivals, including Raindance, Bolton International Film Festival and Carmarthen Bay Film Festival. She has now joined Window Zebra Productions as their Senior Creative Producer overlooking and developing the narrative slate. Come and hear her thoughts and suggestions on how you can find your wheelhouse and get started on your creative journey.

Join us for a special 61st anniversary screening of JFK (1991) by Oliver Stone Step back into one of the most tumultuous moments in American history with a powerful screening of the theatrical version of Oliver Stone’s gripping and controversial thriller that explores the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Through dramatic storytelling and a deep dive into the era’s conspiracy theories, the film raises provocative questions that still stir debate today. Event Highlights Historical context: CFS welcomes Dr Mark de Valk, Course Leader of Practical Filmmaking at Central Film School, who will first deliver a pre-screening overview on Oliver Stone’s 1991 film JFK. Film screening: A special 61st anniversary screening of the theatrical version of JFK (1991) by Oliver Stone. There will also be a demonstration of a Bell & Howell 8mm film camera that captured the event on 22/11/63.
