Bristol Dog School is run by Clair Litster Huckle BSc (hons) who set up the business with the aim of teaching owners how to effectively communicate and have fun with their dogs using positive reward based methods. Bristol Dog School has smaller class numbers that are calmer and are better for learning and easier for us to get to each puppy and give a little more attention. Reward based training is paying your dog for a job well done often called Positive Reinforcement (+R) it rewards correct behaviour so that unwanted behaviours are not rewarded and are then forgotten this avoids using punishment or aversive training methods. The reason we use reward based training is because science has proven that an action learned in a nice way that is reinforced with something the dog finds rewarding is leaned and retained for longer, alternatively an action punished may never stop as the punishment may still be rewarding to the dog if all it wants is attention.

Welcome to Swimcentral where we are proud to deliver excellent swimming tuition, provided by dedicated instructors. The class sizes are small and the lessons are fun and engaging for the students. Swimcentral teaches water confidence, strokes and aquatic skills to children and adults. We are known throughout Bath for the highest quality teaching and the protection and safety of our swimmers. All our teachers are fully qualified and are also trained lifeguards. Our teachers are members of the Institute of Swimming (IOS) which ensures we are up-to-date with new techniques. Progress is monitored every lesson. Pupils who demonstrate consistency and confidence in their strokes receive their FREE certificate, badge and they move up to the next stage. Swimcentral is different to other providers because we focus on much more than just teaching swimming. HorseWorld is a charity dedicated to saving the lives of abandoned, neglected and mistreated horses, ponies and donkeys. The organisation cares for more than 100 horses, ponies and donkeys at its Bristol site and provides after-care and support for around 200 more, who have been re-homed throughout the South-West. The charity also runs the innovative Discovery educational programme. HorseWorld's vital 365-days-a-year animal welfare work is funded by voluntary donations. You can help transform the lives of horses, ponies and donkeys. HorseWorld is not open to the public on a day-to-day basis but it holds Open Days throughout the year. HorseWorld's Registered Charity number is 1121920 Background The charity began life in 1952 as "The Friends of Bristol Horses Society" in a campaign to save the lives of working horses who were rapidly being replaced by motorised vehicles in industry. Under the banner of “Retirement Not Slaughter” - for many were destined for the abattoir - the charity offered a safe haven in Bristol for the big-hearted horses, ponies and donkeys that had worked all their lives on the railways, in the dockyards, the coal mines, the roads and for the armed forces. Decades later working horses are largely a memory of the past. But there is still a very real demand for this work - to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home up to 100 abandoned, neglected and mistreated horses every year. West of England Falconry (WoEF) was established in 2009 inspired by Director Jay Marshall’s lifelong interest in ornithology. WoEF is a registered charity dedicated to the well-being, education and conservation of birds of prey. “It was an experience similar to the ones we now offer the public which prompted me to learn more about falconry. After working with experienced falconers I started to develop a private collection and aviaries of my own. West of England Falconry started in 2009 and has subsequently been granted charitable status in 2013” says Jay. Experiences have always been well reviewed and continued to grow in popularity. WoEF received their first TripAdvisor certificate of excellence in 2015 and have done every year since and is now in the 'Hall of Fame'. In 2015 Naomi Johns met Jay and started working with him as a volunteer. Today Naomi now runs the centre alongside a brilliant team of staff and volunteers. WoEF’s work aims to benefit both wild and captive birds of prey through training and (very importantly) rescue and rehabilitation. Education, information and promoting and sustaining the art of falconry are also a high priority. Due to redevelopment proposals forcing relocation at short notice in early 2017, WoEF moved to Newton St Loe, where the local Duchy of Cornwall office supported us by providing larger premises. WoEF took full advantage of this opportunity and opened The Owlery in October 2017 with 15 more resident birds. WoEF received a Gold award for the Learning Experience of the year in the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards in November 2017, and then went on to accept the Silver award for the whole of the South West. In April 2019, DEFRA granted WoEF a Zoo License, becoming Baths first Zoo, commending a high standard of animal care and commitment to charitable conservation and education activities. In November of 2019 West of England Falconry received a further four Bristol, Bath and Somerset tourism awards for the Small Visitor Attraction of the year, International Tourism, the Learning Experience of the year and for Accessibility and Inclusivity. 'We have come a long way in recent years, but we will of course continue to inspire visitors, to conserve, to work harder for a safer future for wild birds of prey, for the environment and for falconry' says Director Naomi Johns.
