Slow your body Slow your breath Slow your mind When we slow down we give ourselves the opportunity to rejuvenate, to recharge and to harness our own life force energy or “Qi”. As we move towards winter we begin to turn inwards and connect to the power of Yin, the power of Water and the power of finding our own slow flow. In this 6 week course we will explore Qigong movements, meditations and breathwork practices to support this slowing down, giving us the space to connect to our Qi, to our subtle energy, giving us the tools to feel stronger, calmer and full of vitality. In Traditional Chinese Medicine we are entering the water phase of winter. The water element relates to the organs of the bladder and kidneys, our bones, our ears and our sense of hearing. The meridians of Kidney and Bladder run along our spine and the back of the body and when they are flowing well we feel supported by life, grounded and connected to the world around us. We can find our inner flow with ease, without effort or strain, enabling us to let go of our fears and move forward with courage. Qigong teaches us to come back to our bodies, to come back home, to a place of belonging that is inside all of us, a place of stillness in our the centre. This one-day workshop will introduce you to the history and development of still life and product photography and its use in commerce and fine art. We will look at the work of historical and contemporary practitioners leading to a practical demonstration of still life photography, encompassing the relevant lighting, styling and composition. The day will include a simple product photography and lighting session exploring camera techniques and equipment you can use to create your own images. Please bring along a small object you would like to photograph as part of the day. Morning The day will start with an introduction to the still life genre, looking at its development through photography both as a commercial and artistic tool. We’ll then build and light a still life setup – providing guidance and examples of different lighting techniques, composition and styling skills. Afternoon The afternoon will focus on product photography and lighting for sales. This will include information on equipment and technical requirements, along with some handy tips, tricks and hacks! We’ll also demonstrate ‘Focus Stacking’ – an advanced technique for combining multiple images. The day will conclude with a practical session, where you will get a chance to work in small groups to photograph the objects you have brought in, we’ll also provide some sample objects if required. This is a great opportunity to put the day’s learning into practice with our tutor’s support on hand. Project Days are designed for those who are already familiar with some digital photography processes but who want to pursue a particular aspect and develop skills in a specific genre. This course is the perfect follow-on from our Digital SLR training courses and will support you in building upon your existing knowledge of camera skills and allow you to work confidently on your own projects. World Malbec Day is April 17th, although for some reason it’s actually called Malbec World Day. Meanwhile, May 6th is International Sauvignon Blanc Day. So how about a very special event between the two to celebrate these very special grapes? It’s a great opportunity to see how the “Old World” originals such as Sancerre and Cahors stack up against their “New World” counterparts such as New Zealand Sauvignon and Argentine Malbec. But it’s also a chance to see the success that winemakers are having with the two grapes in other parts of the world. Expect to see a range of styles too – in previous years, we’ve kicked off the day with a sparkling Sauvignon Blanc, and finished with a fortified Malbec, for example. And we’ll have a dig through our cellars to see if we can find some rare older examples of both grapes We’ll taste 12 wines on the day (yes 6 of each!) with a break in the middle for a tasty two-course lunch.
