On this one-day Introduction to silver clay jewellery making workshop - suitable for beginners or those that have attended our silver jewellery taster workshop and wish to develop their skills - you will create three different pieces of jewellery. &nbsp; Using silver clay, a material made up of recycled silver particles, an organic binder and water that can easily be used at home with little need for equipment, your expert tutor, Edinburgh-based jeweller Anna Campbell, will take you through all the steps needed to create your own pieces ready for firing. The dried clay is fired with a butane torch to form it into silver (at home a cr&egrave;me brul&eacute; torch will also do the job). The resulting pieces are silver of hallmark quality - modern-day alchemy! The projects you will make during this one-day workshop include a pair of earrings, a stone-set pendant and a moulded charm. You will learn how to make your own silicone mould to use with silver clay so if you have any small charms, shells, buttons and so on you would like to bring along to mould please do! If not, a selection will be provided for you to choose from.&nbsp; You will learn how to design, make and fire your own pieces and will go home with your lovely, truly hand made and unique creations to give as gifts or to keep for yourself!

Over the course of this workshop day, you’ll explore the versatility of silver clay and handmake three stunning projects, each designed to teach you essential skills while sparking your creativity.
What is silver metal clay?
Silver clay is a material manufactured from 100% recycled silver, a plant-based organic binder and water. The silver is recycled from X-rays, the photographic industry, electronics, and the like. You don’t need a lot of tools and equipment to get started and all pieces made on this workshop can be fired with a creme brule torch.
Here’s what you’ll learn and create on this workshop:
Design and craft a pair of earrings (or pendant/charm). Start your journey by designing and crafting a personalized pair of earrings. Don’t have pierced ears? No problem! You can choose to make a beautiful pendant or a bracelet charm instead. Learn how to work with silver clay, texture and shape your pieces and what is possible with this material. 
Make your own custom silicone mould and silver clay charm. Discover the magic of mould-making as you create your very own silicone mould from any object of your choice. You can bring small items of your own e.g. buttons, charms, shells etc or choose from the large selection we have for you! You’ll then use this mould to create a unique silver clay charm, adding a truly personal touch to your jewellery. This technique opens up endless possibilities for future designs.
Craft a gorgeous stone-set pendant. Add a touch of elegance to your jewellery with a stone setting. In this project, you’ll design a stunning pendant and learn how to set a fireable gemstone into silver clay, adding a touch of colour to your design. You will also learn more about which gemstones can be set in silver clay. 
Throughout the workshop, you’ll be guided step-by-step by Anna Campbell, one of the leading metal clay teachers in the UK, making this a fun and accessible class for complete beginners. Based on feedback from those attending our beginners silver clay jewellery classes, tutor Anna Campbell has designed this bespoke&nbsp;intermediate level, full-day workshop to cover what people wanted to learn next: how to make silver clay boxes and beads.
On this intermediate level&nbsp;boxes and beads class you will make three pieces:
<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">
<li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">a shadow box pendant;</li>
<li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">a Pandora-style silver wrapped bead; and</li>
<li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">a silver lentil bead</li>
</ul>
We will cover creating box pendants with flat or rounded sides, using moulds to make decorations, designing the front and back of a piece, making bails, as well as different types of unique silver beads.&nbsp;
You will torch fire all your pieces so they are completed, and ready to take home by the end of the workshop.
The class size is&nbsp;kept small to ensure you have plenty of supervised practice, and Anna&nbsp;will also share lots of hints and tips. By the end of the day, you should have the confidence and skill to start making silver boxes and beads from home.
This full-day intermediate workshop is suitable for anyone who has attended a&nbsp;beginner&rsquo;s silver clay taster&nbsp;or Introduction to silver clay jewellery making workshop, or who has previous experience of working with metal clay.

This full-day intermediate workshop is suitable for anyone who has attended our beginners Silver clay taster or Introduction to silver clay jewellery workshops, or has experience of working with metal clay.
On this workshop, taught by Edinburgh&nbsp;jeweller and silver clay specialist Anna Campbell, you will learn the traditional skill of soldering to advance your jewellery-making skills in order to make different types of jewellery including stud earrings and cufflinks.
This is the perfect follow-on&nbsp;to&nbsp;the beginners workshops, and has been requested by our participants! It&rsquo;s also the right workshop for you if you want to make jewellery to sell, or simply wish to make unique pieces&nbsp;for yourself, or as gifts&nbsp;for friends.&nbsp;
We will begin by&nbsp;designing and making&nbsp;stud earrings, cufflinks and a pendant out of silver clay. This part serves as a good recap on what you&rsquo;ve learnt previously.&nbsp;We will spend the majority of our time focussing on the skill of soldering. You will learn:

Originally created by your tutor Anna Campbell, one of the leading metal clay teachers in the UK, for the London Jewellery School, this intermediate course was developed in response to student requests for a follow-up to beginners’ silver clay class, offering a deeper dive into traditional jewellery-making techniques.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the essential skill of soldering, enabling you to expand your creative possibilities by crafting different types of jewellery, including stud earrings, cufflinks, and pendants. Whether you’re looking to start selling your jewellery, or simply want to create high-quality pieces for yourself or as gifts, this course is tailored to help you achieve your goals.
What you'll learn and create
Design and create with silver clay
As a refresher, we’ll start by designing and crafting stud earrings, cufflinks, and a pendant using silver clay, reminding you of the techniques you’ve already learned (don’t worry if it’s been a while, we’ll cover it step-by-step). 
Soldering techniques
The majority of the day will focus on mastering the art of soldering, where you’ll learn:
How to solder earring posts onto your designs to create studs;
How to solder cufflink backs to your silver clay pieces;
How to solder a jump ring onto a pendant, eliminating the need to drill a hole.
Plus many more tips, including how to make your own pickle (for cleaning metal).
Comprehensive learning experience
We’ll cover two types of soldering, explore the equipment and materials required (which isn’t much more than what you already use for silver clay), and troubleshoot common challenges. You’ll have plenty of supervised practice, and by the end of the day, you’ll feel confident in your ability to solder and take your jewellery-making to the next level - even from home!

We are mindful of the effect we have on the environment, and do our best to minimise our impact.
Silver clay is a material manufactured from 100% recycled silver, a plant-based organic binder and water. The silver is recycled from X rays, the photographic industry, electronics etc. You don’t need a lot of tools and equipment to get started and all pieces made on this workshop can be fired with a crème brûlée torch.
You also take all the lovely products you have created home with you on the day, and workshop correspondence and notes are sent to you electronically.

The Arienas Collective workshops, courses and events are run from a welcoming and supportive environment within a Georgian mews home in Edinburgh’s City Centre New Town. We invite you to join us, leave any day-to-day worries behind and immerse yourself in being creative.
Spaces on our workshops and courses are limited so that our creative team of artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us. 
Our taster and introductory workshops focus on teaching creative skills and methods you can continue practising at home, using affordable materials and equipment. Where more expensive equipment is required we will mention this in the workshop description.
All the equipment and materials you need are included in the price, unless stated otherwise. 
Light refreshments from local suppliers are provided. On full day workshops you are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat inside or out. There is also a wide range of independent sit-in or takeaway delis, cafés, and restaurants, plus a range of supermarkets all within a 5-10 minute walk.
Accessibility
The workshop space is on the first-floor of our Georgian mews home and unfortunately we do not have lift access. Blue badge holders can park outside our front door on the single yellow line by arrangement.
Allergies
The workshop space is in our open plan living space and is not nut free. Please let us know about any skin or food allergies before booking. We offer a dairy-free milk and gluten free snack alternative.
Minimum number no refund policy
To ensure we can always pay our creatives a fair fee, we require a minimum number of bookings for each workshop and for this reason bookings are non-refundable. Should we have to cancel due to low numbers, we will offer you the option to swap to an alternative date or workshop, or to request a refund.
We do our very best to avoid cancellations. Since we often get late bookings, we keep our workshops on sale for as long as possible. We realise that some of you travel from afar, so if you book a space and have not yet received an email confirming your workshop is going ahead and need to make plans for your trip, please get in touch before booking any travel or accommodation so we can update you on booking numbers. Or check in before booking.
Private workshop bookings
Most of our workshops are also available to book for: private get-togethers with family and friends; themed wedding and birthday celebrations; corporate team building and well-being purposes; and in-store retail events for your customers. If you’d like to know more please Email Lynn.
