Get in the festive mood and create some free motion embroidery pictures which you can then use as patches to adorn your home at Christmas, as cushions, on gift bags or as cards. &nbsp;You will learn or be reminded how to set up your domestic machine for free motion embroidery or drawing with a sewing machine. &nbsp;
Get started with some simple exercises and then practice the technique to develop confidence in free motion stitching.
I have a whole heap of Christmas designs and plenty of fabric scraps to cut your appliqu&eacute; shapes from. &nbsp;Once you have settled on a design you can outline and add detail by drawing with your sewing machine, if you are feeling brave you can also add some text to personalise your Christmas design.&nbsp;

Come to the Colourbuzz studio and have fun getting (re-)acquainted with the tools, make a practise piece that works with a gift tag and then on to what will become your favourite 2022 Christmas card to impress loved ones with. You&#39;ll be printing on coloured card of a variety of sizes and experiment with different colours ink. If you want to use your own design, it needs to be no bigger than 10.5 x 15 cm. EMDR in a Renal Unit – working with complex and chronic ill health, by Angela Taylor and Maria Tribe. Looking at case studies and patient interviews from the Sussex Kidney Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. 
Angela and Maria are part of a team of four EMDR therapists working in the Kidney Unit. Maria is an Accredited EMDR Practitioner. 
EMDR and Aviation, by Dr Ruth Henderson: where EMDR can be an asset in aviation - the traumas, the vulnerabilities and who might need help with EMDR. 
Ruth is a Chartered Counselling & Clinical Psychologist, and Accredited EMDR Practitioner, working in private practice in Copthorne, West Sussex. Also, Researcher and Data Coordinator at the Centre for Aviation Psychology (CAP), Member of the European Aviation and Aerospace Psychology (EAAP), and working towards accreditation, as an Aviation Psychologist. BPS registered Aviation Psychologist. Ruth is also a committee member for EMDR Sussex. 
EMDR with the military and veterans: exploring the distinct organisational and cultural characteristics of these populations and how EMDR can be offered within this context, by Shelley Bradley-Scholey. 
Shelley is an EMDR Consultant in private practice. She offers a unique perspective, having been embedded within the military culture, served on military operations and delivered EMDR in active conflict areas. EEDI Objectives:
1. For the venue to be as accessible as possible.
The venue is accessible, the hall and accessible toilet is on the ground floor and lifts are available to other floors where further accessible toilets are available. These are clearly sign-posted, and we include this in our introduction at the beginning of the day to ensure anybody with a sight impairment is aware too. There is a prayer room available on the ground floor too. The venue is 2 blocks from the nearest bus and rail station and has taxis available if required. It is also near a low-cost hotel.
The room is large enough to accommodate those that need to stand or move around. 
The speakers are on a stage so they can be easily seen by the audience. They are briefed that if there is an open mic or question time, that a roving microphone will be given to the participant so that all can hear their comment or question. The presenter will also be asked to repeat what they have said. It has a hearing loop if required.
On applying for a ticket, participants will be asked if they have any EEDI specific needs we can address and we will enter into a dialogue pre-the event, if the needs arise. 
Any support workers required will be offered free spaces and will receive lunch and beverages.
On arrival, there will be board members that meet and greet and will sign-post the attenders. Anyone who has identified their EEDI requests, will be acknowledged, but not separated from the audience.
2. For materials used to be as accessible as possible. 
We will ask the presenters for their slides and handouts in advance so that we can send out to those that would require them in advance. We will consider alternative ways of presenting according to needs that arise, or any that are notified to us in advance. 
3. For the event to be open to a diverse range.
We are willing to consider cost implications and offer free spaces to local charities who are providing EMDR to our local communities.
4. To consider EEDI needs.
An EEDI feedback question is included in the Evaluation Form so that we can continue to learn and develop in meeting those needs.

In this three hour workshop you will learn a thrifty technique using scraps that would otherwise end up in the bin. We will be creating a cushion with our scraps in this workshop but if you would rather make a series of blocks and create a quilt from your crumb blocks that is fine too!
The block can be bordered and backed with two pieces of fabric to form an envelope cushion. 




What you will learn/achieve
Turn quilt leftovers into fun 12-inch by 12-inch blocks which can be used to make a one of a kind cushion
Learn to include scraps of all sizes from one inch and any shape can be included
We will discuss the merits of sticking to a colour pallet or to embrace the random with a range of colours

Instructions from Janine and hands on help as you learn.
Use of all the tools you will need during the workshop. 
Use of the Pfaff sewing machines in Stitching Kitchen's fully equipped studio.

What to bring
Fabric scraps from your recent quilts or from your stash to make your patchwork blocks. 
You will also need a larger piece of fabric to create the back of the cushion at least 17”x 24” (approximately a fat quarter)

You won’t need to bring anything else with you and you can leave your sewing machine at home. Stitching Kitchen is fully equipped with Pfaff sewing machines and all the quilting tools and sewing kit for use during the workshop.

Stitching Kitchen also stocks a full range of haberdashery and quilting tools if you discover anything you would like to purchase to use at home.

Please note that this workshop is held in our light and spacious first floor studio at Stitching Kitchen, which is accessible by stairs.

Your tutor is Janine from TheFatQuarter Quilting https://thefatquarter.co.uk Having dabbled at patchwork and quilting when her children were babies, Janine moved on to develop a love for learning everything patchwork and quilting. In recent years she has owned a patchwork and quilting shop, living and breathing patchwork each day. Nowadays Janine is a professional Longarm Quilter and Patchwork Tutor with a love for sharing her wealth of experience.

In addition to our traditional class-based tuition, we also offer Virtual (via Zoom) Learning courses to cater to different learning preferences. Our Virtual Learning courses provide the same high-quality tuition as our classroom-based sessions. To participate, you will need a laptop, PC, smart phone or tablet with a built-in or external camera and microphone. From the comfort of your own home, you will have the opportunity to communicate with your tutor and classmates through video chat, using your phone or computer camera. This allows for seamless interaction, discussions, and collaborative learning.

Quarterly meetings at the Academy
To ensure a well-rounded learning experience, you will be required to attend face-to-face lessons at the Academy on a quarterly basis, which means every three months. These sessions serve several important purposes:

Practical Units: Some aspects of the course require hands-on practical training. The face-to-face lessons will cover these practical units, allowing you to gain valuable experience and apply the knowledge you have acquired during the virtual learning sessions.

Tests and Mock Exams: These assessments are important for evaluating your progress, identifying areas for improvement, and preparing you for the final exams. The Academy will provide a controlled and supervised environment to ensure the integrity and fairness of these assessments.
Attending quarterly face-to-face lessons provides a balanced approach to your learning journey. It combines the convenience and flexibility of virtual learning with the benefits of in-person interactions, practical training, and assessments. By participating in these sessions, you will have the opportunity to reinforce your knowledge, receive personalized feedback, and build a stronger connection with your tutor and classmates.

Yes, you will have 3 months’ time from the start of your course to find a placement.
The Academy provides a list of Private and NHS Dental Surgeries, who are regularly contacting us when looking for more Trainee Dental Nurses, so you can contact them directly as a registered student at the Academy. This is a paid job, unless you would like to work voluntary for personal reasons. We also provide a reference letter to the employee in case you need it.

The curriculum is based on the GDC (General Dental Council) registration requirements for dental nurses. It sets out the knowledge, skills and behavioural requirements that should be developed and demonstrated. These are set out in terms of professional competencies, with the assessment method clearly outlined (e.g. how the skills and knowledge will be assessed in the final examinations – via written questions such as multiple choice (MCQ) or extended matching questions (EMQ) or via Objective Structured Clinical Examinations – OSCEs). What Can You Expect to Earn as a Dental Nurse? Compared to other caring professions, Dental Nursing is well paid and offers plenty of opportunity for continued training and development. When are the exams?
There are two exams:
1. Multiple choice theory exam. November and March.
2. Practical exam. January and June. 
Record of Experience (eROE)
To be eligible to sit your first exam, you have to complete your electronic Record of Experience (eROE). The eROE has to be submitted to your tutor by 31st Jan for March exam, and 31st August for November exam.

How do I attend?

EITHER -
CLASSROOM OPTION - Attend one of our scheduled classroom locations, completing your Introduction to Phlebotomy Course over 2 days. You will also complete your Advanced Training at the end of the first day and your Competency Training at the end of the second day.

Our Introduction to Phlebotomy and Advanced Phlebotomy Training Kits are supplied at no charge when booking our virtual classroom training option.
If you would like to add one or both of these kits to your classroom training option then these are available to add at time of booking. Our comprehensive training kits each mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video tutorials, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OPTION- Complete your theory training online at home or work, then join us for a one day Zoom session to complete your Introduction to Phlebotomy virtual classroom training, followed by your Advanced Training in the evening of the same day. You have the option to add a classroom-based competency session, awarding a CPD Accredited Geopace Certificate of Competency, at time of booking.

Our Virtual Classroom option includes two very comprehensive training kits - one for your introductory course and one for your advanced course. C01M02 - FD&FA Design Fundamentals - BS5839-1
This course will develop knowledge from the FD&FA foundation BS 5839-1 module and/or industry experience and apply this to the design of FD&FA systems. In this module, emphasis is placed on the process of fire alarm design; enquiry, survey, design, certification and the appropriate recording and documentation requirements. The module uses practical exercises for the practice of design techniques culminating in a design layout exam where delegates demonstrate their knowledge of simple FD&FA system design.

This is module 2 of 5 which can lead to an RQF L3 Award in the Requirements of FD&FA Systems for non-domestic buildings BS 5839-1: 2017.

Who should attend?
Anyone involved in the delivery or checking of FD&FA systems and those who have a responsibility for the design, verification or witness testing e.g., architects, service managers, building/property managers, consultants, fire risk assessors, electrical contractors, fire alarm contractors, interested parties (F&RS, building control, insurers). The course also provides a solid entry point for FD&FA system designers.
