Most importantly, our instructors are trained not just to provide answers, but to listen and provide individual feedback and clear explanation of concepts and techniques. They provide a safe and inviting classroom environment where you learn in a fun and enjoyable manner. In-depth learning opportunities with a good mix of theory and practical Using both practical and theoretical learning means that every type of learner will benefit, whether you are more hands on or learn better through listening to, and writing and reading what you are meant to. Using practical learning allows you to get hands on experience and learn the tools of the trade. It can allow you to feel confident and competent in the skills and techniques you will need when qualified to do your job effectively. Theory can help you understand why practicals are carried out in a certain way so that you can understand what you are doing yourself and explain to others. Theory on its own will not teach you all the skills you need, neither will practical. To master almost any field, you will need to do both. Guided Learning and Home Study To succeed in learning it is important that you spend time at home reading and digesting the theory as well as practising the techniques learnt in class. Our guided home study suggestions have been designed to steer you in the right direction, to keep your studying focussed and relevant. We never set homework for the sake of it. Each one is carefully designed to facilitate deeper learner and consolidation of relevant content. It enable us to offer continued support away from the classroom. Part-time weekend courses Very few people have the luxury of opting for full time courses. All our courses are part-time and our weekend courses are ideal for people with busy lives. HERTFORDSHIRE,

Who Are We? reSEND is an independent advisory service for families who have children or young people with special education needs and disabilities. What Do We Do? We offer impartial, confidential and accurate information, advice, training and support for parents, carers, young people and children regarding Special Educational Needs or Disabilities. This includes information concerning Education, Health and Social Care services. We support parents, carers, young people and children and empower them to express their views and wishes and help them to understand and exercise their rights in SEND processes such as the Education, Health and Care Plan process. We liaise closely with schools, the local authorities, the voluntary sector and other relevant agencies including education, health and social care. We work closely with a number of charities to offer further support and training to families. We also offer bespoke training covering several topics including, but not limited to, Sensory Processing, Autism and EHCPs. “Wouldn’t trust anyone else to advise me about an EHCP for our daughter.” CA, Parent How We Started reSEND was launched in September 2019 by Liz Stanley. Between 2015 and 2018 she had been working as an Independent Support Practitioner in Hertfordshire. The Independent Support service was established to support parents and young people through the SEND reforms that began in 2014. Independent Support Practitioners supported parents through the process of transferring Statements of SEN into the new Education, Health and Care Plans, as well as supporting those applying for the EHCP for the first time. This remit was then expanded to include support during the Annual Review Process of the EHCPs. During this time Liz personally supported over 300 families on a one to one basis and gave information and support in group environments to over 600 parents and young people. When this service closed in 2018 Liz continued to provide this support and expanded her remit further in a self-employed, independent capacity. It soon became very clear that this service was still in high demand and Liz decided to set up a company so she could increase the number of families that she and her team could support. Thus reSEND was born. Since then they have supported hundreds of families with EHCP's and other Educational issues. The team has continued to expand and 2022 saw the launch of the Tribunal Support service enabling reSEND to further support and empower families all over England. “Thank you so much for all your help and support with our families this year. You have been amazing and I don’t know what we’d do without you. You are always so kind, encouraging and positive and we really value all that you do for us.” NR, Head of a specialist playgroup Company Aims and Ethos The ethos of reSEND is that Justice and Support should be available to all. Therefore, our prices are pitched as low as possible to ensure that our service is affordable to the majority of parents and professionals. While our prices may be well below those of other companies, the quality of our work is second to none. All staff have received training in the EHCP process with many holding IPSEA Qualifications and/or Legal qualifications. The Company has ambitious plans for the future which include expansion and the ability to offer a Pro Bono service in the future. There is also plans to convert the company into a Community Interest Company (CIC) to ensure that all profits return into the business to continue to provide Justice and Support for All.

I’m a foodie through and through! I like to eat! I like to cook! Variety is the spice of life, and we shouldn’t get stuck in a rut when we cook. Cooking is a creative process and should be one of life’s great pleasures. I am a big fan of the local Ayrshire seasonal produce, and recently demonstrated dishes at the Ballantrae Festival of Food and Drink 2020 and Newmilns Food Festival, 2017. I am lucky to live in a beautiful part of the world. Maybole is sandwiched between Culzean Castle and Country Park and Alloway where Robert Burns was born. The area is steeped in history and an abundance of local artisan produce. Farm shops sell Ayrshire meat, cheese, vegetables and all manner of other products. Of course, the coast is close by too with a fantastic array of seafood. With all of this on my doorstep, its not hard to be inspired. I believe it is important that we can all cook at least a few great dishes from scratch. Unfortunately, so many people don’t have the skills or confidence in the kitchen. Many people are short of time, and for some, cooking skills simply haven’t been passed down to them. There is an increasing awareness of the health benefits of eating nutritious home cooked meals. Furthermore, I think its very important that people eat together, in order to socialise and share time. BACKGROUND Prior to Home Cook School, I worked as a Lecturer within the Creative Industries Department at a local Further Education College. My role involved working with various student groups – both advanced and non-advanced, community groups and school classes. I love teaching people and seeing them develop knowledge, skills and confidence! Since I was very young, I have been a keen cook. I have travelled extensively, and learned from many different international cuisine styles. My husband and I love to eat out and plan our holidays around breakfast, lunch and dinner! I have attended many cook school classes including Tuscan and Croatian styles. Lindsay demonstrating at Ballantrae Festival of Food and Drink Lindsay Demonstrating at Ballantrae Festival of Food and Drink I love cooking lavish dinner parties, but more recently, my focus has been on cooking nutritious, economic, family meals. I am a strong advocate of reducing food waste by shopping thriftily, planning and using leftovers and often integrate these principles into my lessons. For years, many friends and family would ask me to share my recipes and cooking tips – this combined with my years of teaching experience, consequently gave me the idea to launch Home Cook School. For a long time, I was keen to become self-employed however, due to work and family commitments, I was never able to fully devote myself to the concept. In 2014 I gave up my Lecturing job (after 12 years) to focus on bringing up my young family. The following year I moved to Maybole, South Ayrshire and finally had a kitchen big enough to run classes from! In 2016, I decided to launch Home Cook School. I feel passionate about sharing my love and knowledge of home cooking with anyone who is keen to realise their ambition to become a better home cook! A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH TO COOKING LOCAL PRODUCE As an active member of the Ayrshire Food Network, we pride ourselves in using locally sourced, fresh produce. Not only that – we run cooking courses promoting both Scottish and Ayrshire produce, connecting our clients with local suppliers, supporting the local economy and teaching our clients where they can buy local! Click here to link with some of our suppliers. LOOKING AFTER OUR ENVIRONMENT In our lessons we promote ways to avoid wasting food. We are certified to deliver Zero Waste Scotland Love Food Hate Waste Cascade Training. We recycle our waste and when clients require disposable plates and cutlery for buffets, we use biodegradable products. We also car share where possible! GROW YOUR OWN We encourage our clients to try growing their own fruit, vegetables and herbs in our classes. We use home grown produce in many of our classes and catering. BIOSPHERE CERTIFICATION MARK We proud to hold the business Certification Mark for the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere, which is the stunning area of natural beauty that Home Cook School is situated within. Cooking tutor, and business owner Lindsay Guidi is also a Board Member of the Biosphere. South West Scotland is a place of abundant good quality food, drink and crafts which reflect the diversity and unique character of the countryside and region. One of the best-known crops in the Biosphere is Ayrshire ‘tatties’, known for their earthy, sweet flavour. With a reputation for producing high quality beef cattle, lamb and delicious dairy produce and of course some of the best seafood, the Biosphere offers a special, authentic food and drink experience.

Oxford Open College is accredited by CPD (Continued Professional Development), the specialist awarding body for people working in various fields and want to attain continued development and we have a specialist department working in the early years industry. We encourage enquirers to browse through our childcare course to find the perfect support we offer. CONTEXT AND PERSPECTIVE Oxford Open College has a concept that : Children brought up well are most likely to be successful as adults. This is only possible where government, parents and childcare providers work together: At one time whole families with their children used to work long hours to earn the bare minimum to have something to eat in England, “a poor Law Amendment Act 1834” was done; this resulted in governments of the day setting up “clubs of workhouses” in which the paupers were to live…. In a way this was as if guaranteeing them an even more miserable time; here widows and orphans lived. The work reform Act decided that children under nine years old should not work, strangely the Law makers seemed oblivious to the reality that children were not working for fun, but survival due to poverty……..surely Childcare has come a long way. Oxford Open College is Giving new ideas to the learner/practitioner of how best to present material; the Course is implementation of good practice; sharing knowledge and experience: Therefore, this book only offers guidance, ideas; pointers of the best responses to commonly asked topical questions in the UK, NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Childcare. The suggested responses are exhaustive. The selected topics are based on real units and questions or tasks. Oxford Open College have used personal experience in “practicing Childcare settings:” This experience is what has been used to address most of the topics, questions; drawing from real life situations of safeguarding and caring for Children. The Course text book is written in the first person context I or in My setting so that the upgrading or aspiring practitioner can put themselves in the context of what is happening in their own situation or setting in order to draw parallels and learn by inclusion and participation of shared experience and good practice towards safeguarding, playing with and development of; Children. Oxford Open College provides aspiring practitioners with a preamble in form of a model self-evaluation of a childcare setting, to help practitioners evaluate own provisions. Oxford Open College recognises that there are key factors of how to deal with different situations and a summary of headings of usable policies that can be developed by a starting practitioner. Oxford Open College ensures that the course will include “Advice” for practitioners and learners to deal with various situations such as learning differences, bullying and keeping an outstanding setting. Oxford Open College has designed a childcare course so that in its recess the learning offers learners and practitioners an adaptable handbook to be used by any setting. Raise Up Business Club (Silke Thistlewood)

I (Silke Thistlewood, that’s me on the left with my 2 girls) set up a local networking group for mums in early 2017 after returning from (self employed) maternity leave and feeling decidedly isolated. I had lost my business mojo, felt pretty lonely, and couldn’t make any of the existing networking meetings (no babies allowed, too early, too late etc) so I decided to start my own. I called it Tonbridge Mums in Business and its facebook group grew to 500 members within just a few weeks (it surpassed 1,000 quite some time ago now). We’ve been having regular meetings ever since and the facebook community has grown from strength to strength, with the Thursday promotional thread having become a thing of legend. You have to see it to believe the amount of local talent! And now RuBC_LogoFinal_White_Rose.png In early 2019 I felt is was time to raise the bar and level up - in my own businesses and for the group. I had for some time been wanting to add more value for members - more structure, support and resources (mailing lists for meeting reminders, access to talks members can’t attend, accountability, goal setting etc). With 2 other businesses to run and young kids to look after this was logistically and financially not possible on a voluntary basis (paying for the yearly website subscription alone made my eyes water…..) so I made the decision to introduce a membership structure and a charge for the meetings. I very much hope that the pricing structure I have decided on reflects the value current members have gained from the group and the meetings, and the fact that most of us are working with small margins and reduced working hours crammed around child care and other responsibilities. To set the group apart from other networking meetings in the area, which are confusingly similar in name, the group has been re-branded and has a new name that I feel embodies what the group and community are - supportive, encouraging, non judgemental, inclusive, friendly and quite frankly, magical. I am blown away at each and every meeting by the friendships and kindness that members show each other. What you can expect Community, support, encouragement, friendship, collaborations, inspiration, education - online and in real life across both communities. Weekly check-ins, accountability prompts in the membership community to keep you on track, inspired and safe in the knowledge that this group of women will always have your back. We also co-work in real life and on zoom, go on walks together, discuss books and have coaching sessions with the one and only Action Woman. A wider community of businesses in the free facebook group with the chance to promote your business each Thursday, as well as getting to know others and forming friendships and a basis for collaborations. Someone will always have an answer to any questions you might have - business or otherwise. Regular networking meetings with expert speakers, mingling and cake and/or wine - and not an elevator pitch in sight (so no need to feel nervous). Easy going networking, without the need to “work the room” or hand out business cards at super sonic speed. Our meetings are informal but effective. Low key but inspirational, educational and supportive. Some kind words from business women in the community “There is always a warm excited, inclusive buzz within the group, with many friendships that have been formed over time and I know that some of us have started either using each other’s products or services – or formed collaborations with each other. It’s like a girls night out every month in Tonbridge! SAM HOGWOOD, ESCAPE FROM THE CITY This group has been very welcoming from my first step into my first meeting. I have found everyone in the group to be friendly and supportive of each other and encouraging of the development of one another's businesses. The facebook group and meetings have allowed for shared knowledge and experience in developing each others businesses. I have made great business links and come into work through the group, both paid and through joint collaborations. I have also made some lovely friends through the group which has been a really lovely added bonus CLAIRE READER, CAPTURE ME HAPPY PHOTOGRAPHY I started my Virtual Assistant business in the middle of last year and I am a regular on the weekly Thursday updates. These updates are great as not only do people learn how your business is growing but you can support and find out about other local businesses on your doorstep. I have not made it to one of the networking events that Silke kindly arranges yet, but I will, and when I do, I am sure it will be even more beneficial to my start up business than the group has been so far. EMMA HAGGART, KENT VIRTUAL ASSISTANT Since setting up my hypnotherapy business in 2018, I've found the support of this talented and diverse group to be wonderful. It's great knowing I am not alone in being new to setting up a business, and coming up against many of the same issues as others in the group. This is so reassuring, and I have really benefited from the shared knowledge, passion and experience of everyone in the group. Meet ups are friendly and dynamic, and the topics very fitting. I've made some good contacts and will always recommend fellow business owners where I can. Thanks to Silke this group has really grown and developed and I look forward to further collaboration this year.
