This workshop gives you the unique opportunity to experience the basics of two crafts in 1 day in your own personal pairs workshop with one to one tuition. The studios are located in the cottage garden of our home on the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk border. Your experience is private to you and there will be no other students in the studios. The "2 crafts in 1 day" workshop is aimed at those who want to have a go at both of these fun crafts, and come away having learnt some basic techniques for both disciplines. As this is basically a private tuition experience, the course is focused but fun, so would make a fantastic gift. The day can also be experienced by just 1 person (to book this, please refer to our other workshop ""2 Crafts in 1 Day!" 1-2-1 woodturning & pottery experience in 1 day for 1 person" where each person could experience the crafts singularly or together.  This makes for a wonderful Valentine's or anniversary experience, and can also be enjoyed by a parent and child. The morning is spent learning the ropes of woodturning - how to cut and shape wood on the lathe, understanding a little about the different tools required, and making a few pieces to take home. After a light farmhouse-style lunch (which we provide and which we tailor to your dietary requirements), the afternoon then continues with a pottery session. Students can have fun with clay, focusing on some basic hand building methods to get them used to handling the material using the techniques of pinching, coiling, slab building and also throwing on the wheel.  A total of 3 pieces can then be chosen for us to glaze and fire once they have dried sufficiently. When ready, they can either be collected by the student (if they live locally) or I can post them on (I have to charge postage & packaging). Refreshments are provided during both workshops, and a light, rustic farmhouse-style lunch is also included - catering to all dietary requirements. Depending on the weather/time of year, lunch can be taken either out in the cottage garden or in our country kitchen. The sessions are hands-on with expert 1-2-1 tuition - and the student will be able to use all the studio facilities. Each student will also be provided with a certificate of participation for both crafts. About a week before your workshop date, we'll e-mail you again with more details about parking etc. We also offer accommodation in the form of our Crafter's Retreat cabin (www.craftersretreat.co.uk) or we can advise of other local B&Bs.

What’s included in a 60 minute virtual Gift Wrapping Class You’ll learn the essentials of gift wrapping including as listed in the package you choose.   2. How much is a 60 minute 1-2-1 virtual class? Depending on the package you choose, prices start at £67. 3. How do I book a date for my class? Once payment is received, I will send you an email confirming your payment and a link to book your class 4. Are materials provided? No, materials are not provided. I will send you a list of what you need at least 2 weeks ahead of the class (or once the date is confirmed if less than 2 weeks until the class) 5. What is the difference between an in person & a virtual class? At a 60 minute virtual class you will get 1-2-1 tuition on the techniques which I cannot guarantee you’d get at a group in person class (although I always try to do my best). In person classes usually last a full day and include lunch/refreshments which is not included with a virtual class. 6. Can I change the date/time of my class? If you can no longer attend the class on the date/time you chose, you can change the date once at no futher cost. Please email me for your options. 7. Can I bring a friend? Who is a virtual 1-2-1 gift wrapping class suitable for? The classes are suitable for any skill level from beginner to anyone that has already tried the basics and wants to learn more. A 1-2-1 class is ideal if you struggle to attend an inperson class that fits in with your schedule and prefer the idea of personal tuition  9. Who is gift wrapping class not suitable for? There are no exclusions to suitability 10. What kind of results can I expect if I join a class? That all depends on you and if you’re prepared to go away and practice/use the skills you have learned in the class. 

Due to ongoing Health and Safety precautions we are limiting class sizes to 8 people, for all of our sessions, for the time being. PPE (face shields, gloves and aprons) and hand sanitiser will be available for all of our workshops. Tea and coffee making facilities will be available but you are also welcome to bring your own refreshments or pop to one of our local cafes or bakeries.

In this private workshop, you'll learn the basics of knitting using a vintage knitting machine to create wearable textiles.  🧶What is machine knitting & who invented it?  The knitting machine was invented by Englishman William Lee in 1589 to make stockings. it's a very small manual machine that enables the maker to create fine, fast knitting. Machine knitting was one of the first major stages in the textile industry that led to the Industrial Revolution. It’s still in use today but unfortunately, it’s become a forgotten craft! So we’re here to bring it back! During this creative and therapeutic class your teacher Valeria will guide you through designing and making your own knitted artwork. You'll learn how to use the vintage knitting ‘machine’ and listen to the wonderful sound it produces as the needles move. The process of machine knitting enables you to have full control over your design. Many people find machine knitting therapeutic and relaxing as you can watch and listen to your artwork come to life. Not only that the results look like those of an expert (even for absolute beginners). 🧶What can you make? It’s smooth, quick performance is perfect for making a range of knits – from home accessories to stylish garments - knit long trendy scarves, and quirky tote bags in under 3 hours… Smaller items only take minutes to do. Valeria will work with you to design and make what you want. All materials and tools are included and your artwork is yours to take home and wear with pride. 🧶Why use a knitting Machine over hand-held? Unlike hand knitting, the beauty of using a domestic knitting machine is that you can knit fast and use much finer yarns to create wearable textiles with a professional artistic finish. There will be far fewer mistakes making it less stressful & it’s super fast.  Your teacher Valeria is an experienced designer/maker with a passion for knitwear. She has worked in a high-end knitwear design studio and as a fashion buyer and now she makes kids and adult knitwear @maluk_knitwear (maluk meaning little one in Ukrainian). 'You Touched My Heart' Appliqué class is a great introduction to raw edge appliqué, quilting, adding a flange and top stitching. For the cushion, you'll be adding a zip. This doesn't have to be scary
