The legendary Peter Keep from Jewellery Training Solutions is heading to Woking from Australia to teach his vast knowledge. Our focus within both courses on offer this weekend is to offer our students intricate technical knowledge which is quickly lost to new technology. Well skilled technical jewellers able to create multiple designs by hand are rare and in demand, Peter is dedicated to sharing his endless knowledge and tips, and while he can usually be found online, we are lucky enough to offer classes with Peter in person – a golden opportunity not to be missed. In this class Peter will teach you how to make a catch with a hinged locking mechanism.This project is easier than it first looks, but you do need to have experience piercing out shapes and drilling. During the one-day workshop Peter will show you some other options and explain how they work. You will also be provided with information handouts and materials. These specialist skills can be applied across other aspects of jewellery making. You NEVER stop learning as far as the jewellery industry is concerned and it is Peter’s passion to maintain traditional skill. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Students should have some workshop experience and be confident using normal jewellery tools and equipment. WHAT TO BRING: For safety reasons, during each class, you are required to wear appropriate footwear, we request that no open toed shoes are worn within Workshop 925. Long hair should also be tied back when working with the equipment. You may also wish to bring a notebook. We have handouts for many demonstrations, but there are always many tips and tricks given verbally by the tutor, which some might like to keep note of. Please bring any lunch, snacks and drinks which you may want to your session. We have tea and coffee for you to help yourselves to. We supply all materials and tools. Starting with a ball of clay we will show you how to make simple pinch pots that can then be turned into a bird to take home. Use them to simply decorate your home or turn them into cane toppers for your garden, or maybe a handmade gift for a loved one this Christmas, whatever you decide they’re sure to be a unique beautiful addition. All materials, tools and a firing of your piece included.

Sashiko is a beautiful form of embroidery that uses white stitches on an indigo blue background. Have a go at this beautiful and rewarding hand embroidery technique, which is all done with the simplest of stitches – running stitch. Together we will look at the basic patterns and you can choose one to make into a book cover to take home. This could be the start of something big. No experience necessary, all materials included.

Join us for the day and learn the Art of Log Cabin Quilting. Log cabin quilting is a traditional form of quilting that has been around for centuries. Really popular during the American Civil War the quilt is made up of strips of material, one half light, the other half dark focused around a central square (representing the heart of the home). This workshop will teach you the principles of Log Cabin Quilting, enabling you to design your own piece, whether it’s a cushion for your Christmas theme or placemats / runner for your Christmas Dinner table, you’re sure to leave with beautifully hand-crafted item for everyone to enjoy.

Learn the basics of how to use your sewing machine** Join our group class and learn how to confidently use your sewing machine. We will teach you things like threading your machine, some basic terminology and how to achieve good tension.  This is a great foundation for developing your sewing skills and creativity whilst having fun! **We recommend that you bring your sewing machine to learn on as all machines are slightly different. We have a limited number of sewing machines available to borrow if needed - Please enquire at time of booking**  

Join us and learn how to put pockets into your favourite garments! You will learn:  How to draft a basic pocket pattern  Which garments can realistically have pockets added (and why) How to insert pockets into a pre constructed garment **This workshop will require a basic ability with a sewing machine. If this is not something you feel confident with then we highly recommend joining our Sewing Machine Basics course before signing up for this one**
