Join Adam Williamson for this two day intensive exploring the stunning rosette panel in the Court of Lions, Alhambra Palace, Granada.  We will draw the full extended geometric and biomorphic pattern complete with multiple rosettes. Join Daniel Docherty and Sheetle Shah for this practical two-day course exploring sacred pattern and the art of henna. On the first day of the course Daniel will give an overview of the practice and philosophy of Mandalas from various traditions. Participants will be introduced to certain key characteristics and significant symbolism inherent within traditional Mandalas. We will learn how to construct some of these sacred patterns using the traditional tools of compass and straightedge. Sheetle, a henna artist with 20 years of experience with this traditional art form, will guide participants through the processes of making and preparing henna paste 'from scratch'. You will learn how to apply intricate patterns to paper, hands or feet depending on your preference! Henna is a natural pigment with remarkable staining qualities. You will learn how it is traditionally applied to hands and feet during festivals and celebrations; today, henna is also applied for ‘belly blessings’, cosmetic tattoos, semi-permanent face painting, hair dye and has developed many other creative roles.

A practical and participatory two-day introductory course for anyone wanting to develop a deeper relationship to ink and ochre. We will walk in the beautiful Ashdown Forest; we will reverently forage minerals and materials which we will transform - through various alchemical processes - into pigment, paint and ink. These endeavours will be accompanied by exercises in contemplative pattern construction and plein-air sketching.

Danish cord weaving course. Danish cord weaving is a great skill to master. The classic look comes from the Danish furniture designer Hans Wegner, the style of weaving cord has a cool mid century look, and has had a massive rebound in modern day furniture and interior design. What makes Danish cord weaving unique is the fact its NOT a manufactured machining process. All weaving is by hand by a person, this alone makes these much desired pieces of furniture, stand out in this massive production based world. Truly a unique handmade, bespoke design, with great mass appeal. The course is 2 days, you will be provided with the base bench frame premade in Solid oak. During the first day we will finish the stool, we will show types of wood finishing i.e oil, lacquer etc.. and prepare for the weaving process. We will talk in length and demonstrate Danish cord weaving, and a overview of the making of the stool frame. During day two you will spend the day weaving your stool to completion, by the end of the day you will have a beautiful stool to take home and admire your new found skill. 8 Week pottery course for beginners specialising in pottery wheel techniques

Delve into the deep mysteries of Sacred Geometry - 'Art of the Ever-True', under the gentle guidance of SAOG Studios' senior tutor Daniel Docherty. You will learn how to draw the primary four, five and six fold 'Creation' Diagrams with the traditional geometer's tools of compass and straightedge. You will be introduced to the inherent symbolism of these symmetries and how they may be developed into a myriad of pattern possibilities. The pace of this weekend course will be set with beginners in mind and there will be time to enjoy conversation and colour ... and of course tea, coffee and cake!!!

This set of 6 morning workshops (over 6 weeks) is designed to allow you the opportunity to explore a wide range of techniques to create beautifully unique fused glass jewellery & decorative objects. After a brief introduction to the historical context and language of fused glass you will be guided through using techniques such as scoring, cutting £0& layering sheet & accessory glass, adding mica or oxide powders to create sparkle and bubbles, use of kiln carving to create subtle textures, using inclusions of wire & precious metal foils and painting or stencilling with 'glassline' paints etc. you will create at least 2 pieces per session and these will be fired and ready to add finishing touches on the subsequent session ( pieces made during the final date will be fired & finished and ready for collection after 7 days) we will mainly focus on jewellery but larger items can be made eg.
