LEARN HOW TO MAKE SIMPLE LEATHER ITEMS: WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT? This is a theoretical and practical taster group tuition during which you will receive an overview on basic leather craft skills and techniques and realise one or more simple leather items to take home with you.The class will take place in our London workshop where you will be able to see how a leather craft studio is equipped and receive practical demonstrations of common working methods used in the field.YOU WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE AS MANY CUSTOMISED LEATHER ITEMS AS YOU CAN, choosing between a selection of different types of goods such as key rings, glasses cases, card holders, bracelets and more.You will be shown different types of leather and get to understand their main features. You will receive an introduction on how to prepare, mark, cut, edge finish leather and use simple fastening hardware.You will receive relevant, useful and informative handouts as well as lists of leather and tool suppliers.   At the end of the tuition you will have:– Gained an understanding of leather types– Been instructed on the use of common fastenings and closure techniques– Received an overview on the correct use of tools for preparing, marking, cutting and punching leather– Understood and practiced leather craft techniques such as beveling and burnishing techniques– Realised you own small, simple leather item(s) to take home with you WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?This course is suitable for total beginners and beginners with some experience in leather crafts.You should be able to use measurements and understand verbal and written English instructions.   ARE THERE ANY OTHER COSTS? IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO BRING?Materials are included.Feel free to bring a notepad, if you would like to take some notes, we will provide the rest. INCLUDED IN THE COURSE:You will be provided with useful handouts which contain:– A list of recommended suppliers for both leather and fittings (physically in London and online)– A glossary containing information about leather types and characteristicsHOW LONG IS THIS TUITION?:This tuition will require up to 3 hours to complete.We aim to provide customised and high quality tuition services and by only allowing up to 6 students at a time, we are able to focus on each person needs and interests.As every student has a different level of ability and previous experience, this course might lead some students to complete the core aspects of the lesson in a shorter time frame than others.Students who complete the course early will be welcome to stay and use the studio facilities to exercise on the topics of the lesson.

A two-day, beginner, hands-on course to rebuild a section of dry-stone wall, learning the age old techniques of this satisfying craft

Egg tempera has been practiced by artists for over two thousand years. It is one of the most durable and beautiful paints in the history of art. Students will discover how master practitioners of this art form prepared their pigments from the earth, rocks and plants and mixed with egg yolk to make their tempera paint.

Join Daniel Docherty and master stone-mason Nicholas G. Durnan for this week-long course where participants will learn the principles of Order in Space through a deep study and immersion in the five platonic solids. Daniel will lead the first two days where we will familiarise and befriend the forms as we draw, model and weave them in various ways and at various scales. The focus of the Thurs/Fri/Sat sessions will be on the carving of the forms in stone. It is likely that particpants will be able to carve a full set of all five 'Platonic' solids.

Working with an experienced local crafter, you'll design and create your wooden chopping board, rolling pin and set of utensils to take pride of place in your kitchen.

Calling all artists! We're proud to announce that we're opening up a brand-new Craft Tutor Academy, and we want YOU to be there. A 2-week course that gives you the chance to immerse yourself in the art, craft and design disciplines of your choice while gaining a teaching qualification.

Make an amazing 5' tall living willow sculpture for your garden from freshly cut live willow. Your sculpture will continue to grow for years, simple maintence retains the size and shape whilst providing new deep red withies for you to cut and weave with each year. You will learn some basic weaving techniques and learn about how the willow is grown and processed. No experience necessary, bring a light weight pair of gardening gloves  Plant pot and compost supplied. Refreshments are included.

Mandalas, in essence, can be understood to be diagrams, patterns and pictures that are distillations of cosmic wisdom and harmony; repositories of archetypal intelligence. Mandalas offer a potentially powerful means of deepening one’s spiritual and contemplative practice. This is especially true when they are constructed - using the traditional tools of compass and straightedge - in a considered and contemplative manner. During this week-long course, Daniel Docherty will guide participants through the construction of a number of mandalas from different traditions including mandalas that embody significant planetary patterns. We will explore their inherent symbolism and cosmic correspondences. Participants will also make their our own inks and paints from plant and mineral in order to colour and ensoul their designs.
