Learn to crochet in Surrey - this is an immersive 4 x 2 hour course running on Tuesday evenings in Walton-on-Thames.

This course is not suitable for total beginners. Summary of topics covered in the class: – Pattern making and development for two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes – Leather preparation, pattern placement and leather marking – Leather cutting, gluing and reinforcing – Pattern development, assembling and making for different clutch constructions By the end of the tuition, you will have: – Learnt how to develop patterns for three-dimensional shapes featuring gussets – Learnt how to create patterns for different types of lining – Applied the concept of seam, folding, and trimming allowances when drafting patterns – Created finished patterns, constructed, and completed up to 3 clutches (quantity may vary based on personal abilities) – Learnt how to use patterns to correctly cut your material, minimising waste and utilising the best parts of a hide/skin – Worked with a variety of tools for pattern making and leatherworking, as well as various types of leather – Developed essential leathercraft skills such as preparation, marking, finishing, cutting, and more – Obtained a basic understanding of the differences and best uses of reinforcements, stiffeners, and stabilisers Included in the course: You will receive useful paper handouts containing: – A list of tools and materials used during the lesson(s), with descriptions and usage instructions – A list of recommended suppliers for leather and fittings, both in London and online – A glossary containing pattern making terms and general guidelines for pattern drafting All materials are included, there are no additional costs. Log Cabin Quilting gets its name from the layout of the pieces - log shaped strips built up around a central square, or ‘hearth’. In our log cabin quilting workshop, we’ll be taking you through how to measure, cut and sew this traditional block. The fabric choices, layouts and positioning can be used to make a huge range of patterns, and we’ll be explaining how to achieve this too. We’re popping this course in both Level One and Level Two. It’s suitable for total novices, we’ll help you through everything you need to know to build confidence in quilt-making. If you’re not yet comfortable with a rotary cutter and ruler, no problem – you can use precut 2 ½-inch strips, like Jelly Rolls, which make the process easier and just as enjoyable. More experienced quilters might get a bit more done, (the quilt size can be adjusted based on the speed of the quilter) and can benefit from Janine’s years of experience to pick up little tips and tricks for a professional, polished quilt. This workshop will take place over two full Saturdays. You will be provided with a materials list ahead of the sessions. This is a great quilt for getting through your scraps, or sewing with a jelly roll!

Our six week course starts each July and focuses on Men’s pattern drafting, block patterns, figurations, cutting, fitting, remarking and master patterns. Successful students will be awarded a certificate.

All artist at one time or another will feel the need for inspiration and motivation and what better way than immersing yourself in a painting break, Studio views overlooking the sea in Bournemouth. Inspiring scenery and our special breaks are a little different. You will receive help and guidance from Three professional artists over the course of the break. Covering different techniques and different subject matter. There will also be demonstrations to get those artist instincts tingling. This is a great way to rejuvenate and develop your art by immersing yourself in one of our much loved TRIO breaks. No Matter what creative stage you’re at in your artistic journey, there is something for every ability on offer.

An axe making course is a fantastic way to learn about an ancient craft and create a tool that will last a lifetime.  Over this two day course you will learn the basics of forging as well as the more advanced techniques of punching and drifting the axes eye as well as isolating mass and steel movement.  Once the axe is forged as close as possible to shape we will heat treat and talk about the science and workings of why we do this and then its over to the belt grinders to refine a final edge, the last step is to shape the handle and fit it to your axe!  Courses are £320 Per person per two days. All courses must be paid for a minimum of 14 days in advance to secure the date.  I run a strict cancellation policy. If you cannot attend the date you have booked please contact me within three weeks and I will rebook your course for free, If you contact me after this deadline you will lose your place.
