Join artist Julie Galante for this in-person workshop, where we’ll take inspiration from the sweeping view of Edinburgh’s distinctive skyline as viewed from Inverleith Park. Participants of all experience levels are welcome for this friendly, small-group experience.  We’ll start with some guided warm-up sketches before moving on to drawing exercises focused on composition, tone, and observation. By the end of the workshop you’ll feel more confident drawing a city skyline, no matter your previous drawing experience.  Please come dressed for the weather, ready to spend two hours outside. You may also want to bring along a folding stool or a rug to sit on while you draw (there may be benches available, but this is unpredictable).  Participants will also need to bring along some basic art supplies:  A sketchbook and/or some drawing paper and board (A4 or larger recommended) Various drawing pens and pencils Charcoal or graphite sticks An eraser Any other favourite art supplies that you may like to use

Learn two examples of the traditional Japanese side sewn bookbinding technique, the basic four hole binding and the more elaborate tortoiseshell binding in this relaxed beginner-friendly workshop.

Think of it as a sew and natter, where it does not matter which level you are at, you can come and sew, get help, swap ideas and techniques, etc.

A Whiter Shade of Pale with Chris Yates Using mono-printing techniques, stamps and stencils, and your chosen colours of paint, you will create an individual background which can then be used to create positive and negative images. These can then be stitched with hand embroidery resulting in a truely indivdual piece (or two). A word of warning this technique is addictive.

1 DAY FABRIC PRINTING WORKSHOP £75.00 The perfect introduction to fabric screen printing, our beginner workshop is ideal for anyone interested in learning the complete screen printing process or simply looking to print some tea towels or cushion covers with their own design for a special occasion. The sessions will run from 10am – 4:00pm (subject to class size) with a 30 min break for lunch. The day will be split as follows: Morning After a short intro into the studio and the process you’ll guided through how to coat and expose your design onto your screen. Afternoon After lunch we’ll decide on colours and select print pastes and go through the process of setting up the fabric tables ready for printing. When the screens are dry everyone will have a go at printing their fabric. Each person will walk away with 1 metre of fabric printed with their own 1 or 2 colour design. 1 DAY T-SHIRT PRINTING WORKSHOP £75.00 The perfect introduction to t-shirt screen printing, our beginner workshop is ideal for anyone interested in learning the complete screen printing process or simply looking to print some t-shirts with their own design for a special occasion. The sessions will run from 10am – 4pm with a 1 hour break for lunch. The day will be split as follows: Morning After a short intro into the studio and the process you’ll guided through how to coat and expose your design onto your screen. Afternoon After lunch we’ll cover ink mixing and the process of setting up the t-shirt carousel ready for printing. When the screens are dry and colours are chosen everyone will have a go at printing their t-shirts. 1 DAY PAPER PRINTING WORKSHOP £75.00 The perfect introduction to paper screen printing, our beginner workshop is ideal for anyone interested in learning the complete screen printing process or simply looking to print an edition with their own design for a special occasion. The sessions will run from 10am – 4pm with a 1 hour break for lunch, a great opportunity to sample one of the many food kiosks located on levels 5 and 6 of the building. The day will be split as follows: Morning After a short intro into the studio and the process you’ll guided through how to coat and expose your design onto your screen. Afternoon After lunch we’ll cover ink mixing and the process of setting up the paper bed ready for printing. Polymer clay is bright, fun and very easy to use. In this workshop you get to make you own animal using the clay and tools provided in the session. You get to add you own personal touches and personality into your design.

This 2-day workshop will help participants develop the skills and confidence to advance their screen-printing experience.
