Stoneware Teapots in Northumberland
This brand-new pottery class will see you have a go at making one of the more challenging pottery projects - a Teapot! As a build with multiple parts and problems, we will try to build all together following a set template. The time allocation is to allow everyone a chance to succeed but we may finish early depending upon the size and composition of the group. Once finished, your teapot will stay at the studio to be fired, glazed and then re-fired. The ultimate test of a teapot is how it pours - and we can only really test this once the pot is through its complete build, fire and glaze process. And we would encourage you to embrace the process and perhaps not be too self-critical if the pot ends up being more decorative than functional. 

Please note that the workshop runs over lunch (which we don't provide) so please build the provision of a packed lunch into your day - or try one of our local eateries. (Ford Village Post Office does a lovely menue of hot and cold lunch options). 

There are only six places per session - this allows enough access to support for everyone to be successful! The numbers are limited to avoid over-crowding in the workshop. If you book a place for a young person and feel they will need help in creating their teapot, please come along and help them (as a non-paying spectator). Even with only six people booked in a session, it can be difficult to support everyone in the way they need. Again, please note this at the time of booking. 

The ticket price covers all tuition, tools, firings and glaze for one teapot. Please note that these pots will be glazed in just one colour - dip-glazed as you request. 

A word of warning - the kiln Gods can be fickle, and despite doing everything possible, some pieces will fail, crack or blow up (!) in the kiln. There are no guarantees in pottery, not even for seasoned potters. A second word of warning - working with pottery can be hugely addictive. You have been warned!

The New Ford Studio is housed on the ground floor of the old Reading Rooms - you will find it just up the road from Lady Waterford Hall. Nearby are many attractions and places to walk, shop and eat; how about a near by Narrow-guage Railway (that runs to Etal Castle and back), a working flour mill, a Village Shop & Tearoom, a heavy horse centre, a micro-brewery, or a Riverside cafe? 

Please note - access to the studio is only via a set of external stone steps, and there is a single toilet available on site. 

If you need your work posting out to you or someone else, please ensure you book an additional postage and packing ticket!

And finally - There is ample free parking at Ford, at Heatherslaw and at Etal. Ravn Clay sits at the heart of the Estate, which also offers camping, glamping, B&Bs and guests houses. And there’s plenty more to do and see while you are here -

Teapot Making Workshop

A fun creative workshop in Worcester (a private class as a 1-1 or for a small group of up to 3 people) to create your own enamelled copper jewellery to take home with you at the end of the session. This is a fun beginner&#39;s taster class using powdered enamels on copper shapes. Your booking is private for you/your group only.&nbsp;You will select and prepare your copper shapes and then add layers of sifted coloured glass powders, firing each layer of each piece directly in a 800C kiln for a few minutes (safety equipment available but a steady hand is useful!). I will show you various options for adding some details eg: sgraffito, stencils, inclusions like glitter etc. and you can choose what colour combinations and finishes you&#39;d like to try. At the end you can add a jump ring and can take your pieces home with you. &nbsp;&nbsp;You will each be able to make 3 items of jewellery (either 3 pendants or 2 pendants and 1 pair of earrings). If you new to sewing or just want some tuition to improve your techniques or learn to read and follow a pattern this is the sewing workshop for you! &nbsp;This pattern is an ideal starter for those keen to sew with stretch and can be made on either an overlocker or sewing machine
During the day we will make an easy fitting tunic top or dress using the Tilly and the Buttons &lsquo;Coco&rsquo; pattern (included in the workshop cost).&nbsp; Hannah will teach you how to choose the right size for you, how to prepare the fabric and pattern to be set up for success.&nbsp; You can choose to create this design as either a top or dress with a choice of neckline.
Bring your machine or overlocker - you can borrow a machine from the studio to construct your &nbsp;top or dress. &nbsp; Help is available all day as your create your garment.
I will be in touch before the workshop with a list of supplies you need and suggested retailers to purchase your fabric.&nbsp; Threads and other notions are available at Stitching Kitchen on the day.

In this fun, festive workshop you’ll create up to 6 unique hanging decorations. We will demonstrate and guide you through the basic skills of glass fusing. 

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners or perfect if you’ve enjoyed one of our previous fused glass workshops. There’s no glass cutting or previous skill necessary. 

Beginning with a blank shape, you’ll have the opportunity to create your own designs using a selection of accessory glass, including frit, stringers, glass dots and enamels. 

Your colourful creations will be fired in the glass kiln, ready to collect from the studio in time for the festive season. 

All of the materials and kiln firing are included. Extra pieces maybe made on the day at an extra cost of £2.50 each, time permitting.

This is the perfect sewing course for you if you are a complete beginner wishing to have a thorough introduction to using a sewing machine, learning different sewing techniques. This course consists of three two hour sessions&nbsp; or a 6 hours day course, in which you will be taken from the very basics of setting up and threading a sewing machine to making a tote bag or storage basket, to a wash bag complete with zip and a cushion cover with buttons.

You can use our materials for the first two projects but I would suggest you provide your own material and buttons for the cushion to match your decor.

Nicky's aim is to show how easily accessible surface textiles techniques can be for every level of student and how it can be delivered in a fun and engaging way.
She will also introduce you to her online and face-2-face courses with an opportunity to ask questions.

Marbling is great way of introducing a quick and easy surface technique if you have little to no prior experience. Especially good for students who will get immediate exciting and inspiring results.!
A beginner friendly workshop to produce great artwork for textile projects.

If you want to join in you will need: 
tray of cold water (min 5cm deep)
oil paint 2 colours
white spirit
glass jar and brush to mix/have a cloth for spills and a table cover
pipette 
paper or fabric to marble
