Whether you're a complete beginner or refreshing your skills, our introductory sewing workshop is designed to build confidence and creativity. Over 10 hours (5 sessions), you'll gain hands-on experience with a sewing machine, create stunning projects to brighten up your home, and leave with the building block skills you need for all beginner and improver sewing projects.

Join us for a FREE Tea 'N Chat with Textile artist and teacher LINDA HARVEY who talks about her work.
We are excited to have the immensely talented mixed-media textile artist Linda Harvey join us for our April Tea 'N Chat event. With over 25 years of experience in both teaching and creating, Linda brings a deep well of knowledge and a true passion for her craft. As the Head of Textiles at Archbishop Holgate's School in York and a dedicated member of York Textile Artists and The Society for Embroidered Work, Linda's commitment to her art is truly inspiring.
On the night, during the event, we will be running a mini competition to win one of Linda's new Books ‘INSPIRED BY YOU’ 100 Days of Textiles Art



Linda’s artwork is a mesmerizing fusion of rustic textures and innovative techniques. Drawing inspiration from her travels, she transforms photographs into expressive, abstract textile creations. Her work beautifully reflects her love for color and texture, incorporating elements such as hand-felted backgrounds, free-motion embroidery, intricate layering, and rust dyeing.

LINDA HARVEY  Textile Artist and Head of Textiles at Archbishop Colgate School, York

Linda studied Textiles and Surface Design at University Centre Somerset, graduating in 1994. She is a textile artist and Head of Textiles at a York secondary school and a member of York Textile Artists and The Society for Embroidered Work, which promotes and supports the best in stitched art worldwide.
The inspiration for her work mainly comes from the places she visits, taking photographs of anything that catches her eye. These photographs give a starting point from which her work evolves, often working on several pieces at a time, as she enjoys an expressive and experimental way of working.
Linda is inspired by rustic textures and the ageing process, drawn to anything corroded and tarnished and immediately seeing how it can be turned into a textile art piece. Colour and texture are the key elements in her work.



The Textiles Skills Centre Associates are a team of volunteers that manage the social media platforms and website, and offer support, mentorship and advice to textile teachers and trainees. Together we&rsquo;ll explore ways to &nbsp;create work that reflects your individual interests, passion, and point of view, no matter your experience level. The course content is delivered over seven live Zoom sessions, in a small, welcoming group with plenty of opportunities for interaction. Additionally, there will be optional (but highly recommended) assignments to complete in between the live sessions - assignments designed to get you stuck in to your creative practice in new and interesting ways.During each live session, there will be a demonstration focusing on a particular aspect of visual art - this will include various materials, subjects, and considerations such as composition, theme, mark-making, layering, and so on. We will also have a look at everyone&rsquo;s recent creations, with celebration of the triumphs and suggestions for moving forward with work-in-progress. Together we&rsquo;ll explore techniques including drawing, painting, mixed-media, paper craft, and collage, but you don&rsquo;t have to work exclusively in these media to take part - all creative disciplines are welcome.Each participant will be encouraged to deepen their explorations in whatever direction interests them most - be it a series of written reflections, sketches, collages, photographs, mixed-media pieces, or a unique, personal combination of all these.There will be an optional online discussion group for participants to stay connected and share their creations with each other between sessions.
